Lincoln, Nebraska Parks and Recreation provides high-quality public spaces that enhance the livability and vibrancy of our community. We are seeking a passionate and experienced professional to serve as our new Trails Manager. This person will focus on the development, maintenance, and future growth of Lincoln’s award-winning trail system. As part of the Department’s Planning and Construction Section, this position provides strategic leadership and project oversight for all aspects of the City’s multimodal trail system—including both paved and natural surface trails. From concept planning to final construction, the Trails Manager will guide the creation of new trail segments and ensure the continued safety, functionality, and connectivity of existing trails throughout the community.
This position requires a self-motivated individual with strong organizational and communication skills who can coordinate across departments, lead public engagement efforts, and work collaboratively with external agencies and community partners to advance trail initiatives. The ideal candidate will have the ability to manage multiple complex projects with attention to detail and deadlines. Possession of a valid driver's license is strongly preferred.

Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in landscape architecture, or in one of the related engineering sciences; plus experience involving landscape architecture as it relates to municipal park and recreation design or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the desirable knowledge, abilities and skills.
Our team manages 137 parks, 172 miles of trails, 93 playgrounds, over 80,000 street trees, nine public pools, six recreation centers, five golf courses, five dog runs, a nature center, and beautiful public gardens. Our programs include recreation summer day camps, before and after school, clubs and classes for individuals with special needs, adult and youth team sports, nature based classes and events, swimming lessons, wellness and fitness classes for all ages, and a variety of free events and classes for all ages.
