About Recreation District #1 of St. Tammany Parish/Pelican Park
Recreation District #1 is a free standing governmental agency that is governed by a 7-member administrative board. The District operates Pelican Park, which includes almost 500 acres and consists of 32 athletic fields, 8 pickleball courts, 2 gyms with 7 total courts (basketball/volleyball), a 45,000SF event center, skatepark, amphitheater, and a nature center.
The District serves as a large economic generator for the community with events/shows renting the Castine Center and numerous local and regional tournaments utilizing the long and diamond fields at Pelican Park. The District hosts many large sport tournaments throughout the year with anywhere from 50 to 200+ teams. Events held in 2025 include the USA Rugby Club 7s Regionals, the Midnight Madness Soccer Tournament, and the Louisiana Bayou Cup.
The District employees appx. 42 full time employees and 50+ part-time employees.
