WHO WE ARE
Founded in 1964, Reston was influenced by the Garden City movement that emphasized planned, self-contained communities that intermingled green space, residential neighborhoods, and commercial development. The intent of Reston's founder, Robert E. Simon, was to build a town that would revolutionize post–World War II concepts of land use and residential/corporate development in suburban America.
In 2018, Reston was ranked as the Best Place to Live in Virginia by Money magazine for its expanses of parks, lakes, golf courses, and trails as well as the numerous shopping and dining opportunities. In 1968 the Reston Community Association (RCA) was created to take responsibility for community programs. The Reston Home Owner Association (RHOA) was created in 1970 by consolidating the original homeowner associations. In 1970, the new RHOA was given the deeds for approximately 1,000 acres of Reston’s open space, lakes, recreational areas, and facilities by then owner, Reston Gulf, Inc.
These facilities included Lake Anne, swimming pools, parks, and bridges. RHOA was later renamed the Reston Association in 1987. Today, Reston Association is managed by a professional st...aff, governed by the Board of Directors, and supported by several Board appointed committees. The organization continues to be responsible for design review and covenants of Reston
properties, maintaining all lakes and open space areas within Reston, as well as providing new amenities, recreational offerings, and educational programs for this evolving community.
WHO WE ARE GOING FORWARD
PRESERVATION+TRANSFORMATION

Today we’re increasing the value of homes and properties — and of visitor and member satisfaction. And today we’re keeping RA’s members’ best interests in clear focus so that tomorrow we’re even more effective. Reston Association is pursuing the path of what we could do becomes what we did.
