The City of Plano, Texas is seeking an experienced, high-performing professional to fill the Assistant Director-Recreation position for its award-winning Parks and Recreation Department.

Summary of Job Duties: Under administrative supervision, the Assistant Director-Recreation is responsible for directing and managing the overall operations and programs of the Recreation Division involving recreation centers, aquatic facilities, special services, golf course operations, tennis center, cultural arts and special events. The Assistant Director of Recreation also directs other aspects of the Department as assigned by the Department Director.

Leads, plans, organizes and directs a broad program of public recreation activities, and the operation and use of recreational facilities; participates in the planning and execution of special events as needed.
Develops and monitors division budgets, oversees purchasing and expenditures, and ensures financial accountability and efficiency.
Performs public relations duties and services as technical advisor to citizens, boards, commissions and other departments and organizations. Represents the Parks and Recreation Department when assigned.
Maintains effective communications between City, Plano ISD and community organizations.
Participates in the development and implementation of strategic plans, policies, and long-range goals to enhance parks and recreation services.
Establishes processes to systematically evaluate programs, facilities, and services for operational efficiency and effectiveness.
Researches and compiles data to obtain performance measures and determine future needs for long- range programming.
Investigates and responds to inquiries and complaints relating to citizen use of recreation programs and facilities.
Directs the research, analysis and preparation of special reports, studies and surveys.
Supervises and manages subordinate personnel.
Attends various meetings and continuing education seminars and classes.
Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work schedule is essential.
Marginal Duties:
Performs other duties as assigned.
Typical Decisions: The incumbent approves recreation services policies and procedures, programs and fees. The incumbent is responsible for administering budget expenditures and revenue collection to meet unit objectives and goals. The incumbent must establish performance measures for subordinates and evaluate performance against these standards or measures.
