Requirements of Work
Thorough knowledge of methods of organizing recreational activities
Considerable knowledge of recreation methods, rules and equipment, plus some personal skill in such activities
Considerable knowledge of teaching methods as applied to recreation
Knowledge of the ideals and objectives of public recreation
Knowledge of basic first aid methods
Ability to lead, instruct and supervise groups engaged in recreation activities
Ability to effectively plan, organize, and supervise the work of other employees
Ability to maintain recreation equipment
Ability to work outdoors when unpleasant weather conditions are present
Ability to move quickly and reach, bend, stoop, twist or squat, and/or other motions needed for job duties
Ability to move tables, chairs, supplies and equipment weighing up to 30 lbs.
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, representatives of other organizations and the public
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, and/or by whatever creative means necessary to cross communication barriers
May require ability to acquire and maintain a valid Kansas driver's license
An employee shall not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
Required Experience and Training
Five years of experience in planning, delivering, and managing recreational programs OR Bachelor's degree with emphasis in education and/or recreation and one year of experience in planning, delivering, and managing recreational programs
Two years of experience leading and supervising staff.
One year of experience organizing and coordinating events, programs, or community activities.
Two years of experience maintaining facilities, grounds, and equipment maintenance.
A valid driver’s license.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship.
Preferred Experience and Training
Certification or 1 year of experience in Therapeutic Recreation, involving adaptive or inclusive programming.
