Position Summary:
Under the general direction of the Aquatics Supervisor, this role oversees the comprehensive operation of the facility, including the supervision of lifeguard services, instructional safety training, and the coordination of recreational and competitive aquatic programs. Performance is evaluated through conferences, reports, observation, and measurable outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage daily operations of the aquatic facility, ensuring safety, cleanliness, and customer satisfaction.
Directly supervise a seasonal team of 15–60 part-time staff, including lifeguards, instructors, and support personnel.
Plan and oversee routine maintenance activities such as cleaning, water quality control, and equipment checks (e.g., backwashing filters).
Organize and lead staff training and in-service sessions focused on fitness, safety, and emergency response preparedness.
Coordinate and supervise swim meets, special events, and community programs.
Handle administrative duties including staff scheduling, payroll processing, financial reporting, and record keeping.
Serve as the primary point of contact for public relations and customer service, fostering a welcoming and professional atmosphere.
Ensure compliance with all local and state regulations governing aquatic facilities and personnel.
This position requires a hands-on leader with strong organizational skills, the ability to motivate and manage diverse teams, and a passion for promoting safety, wellness, and community engagement through aquatics.
Minimum Training & Experience
Possession of a bachelor’s degree in leisure services, recreation, or physical education and one year of professional experience that includes either the operation and maintenance of swimming pool facilities, recreation programming, teaching physical education, coaching, recreation administration or a closely related area; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Necessary Special Requirements
Must obtain Water Safety Instructor or equivalent learn-to-swim instructor, Lifeguarding Instructor and Pool Operator certificates within one year of appointment, as a condition of continued employment.
