 Duties and Responsibilities

 Plans, develops, implements and/or modifies program procedures, guidelines and policies to achieve program goals and objectives. 
 Conducts need assessment data analysis to facilitate developing grant applications to obtain funding for assigned projects. &#xa0; 
 Evaluates program results and determines changes that need to be made in program policies and procedures based on feedback from customers, service providers, and/or community groups. 
 Conducts comprehensive needs assessments by auditing and evaluating program progress to determine if the program is achieving its objectives. 
 Analyzes program data, identifies actual and potential problem areas, trends and related factors that impact the program, and prepares comprehensive reports of findings including solutions and recommendations. 
 Ensures program operates in compliance with departmental goals and objectives, pertinent laws, rules, and regulations, monitors federal, state, and/or regional regulatory changes to determine when program rules and regulations need to be revised, and advises service providers, community groups, and clients on changes needed to comply with program criteria. 
 Performs other related duties as required.&#xa0; 
 
 
 Maintain the ability to pass the background checks required for the position. These background checks may include but are not limited to: 
 
 
 Criminal History Background Check using Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) 
 Level 1 and Level 2 Background screening (Ch. 435 Florida Statutes) 
 Child Abuse, Abandonment and Neglect Record Check using the State Automated Child Welfare Information System (SACWIS) 
 Sex Offender and Sexual Predator record check using the list maintained by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) 
 
 
 Possess the necessary&#xa0;job-related&#xa0;license(s) or certification(s) that may include possession of a Florida Driver License (Class E) or an applicable Commercial Driver License (CDL). 
 
 
 Graduation from an accredited&#xa0;four-year&#xa0;college or university; AND 
 Two years of experience directly related to the assigned program;&#xa0;OR 
 An equivalent combination of education (not less than possession of a high school diploma/GED), training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted above.</description>

The Natural Areas and Trails division of PRNR is currently recruiting for an Environmental Specialist II who can support land managers with assistance in the development, implementation, and coordination of land management projects and activities, including exotic plant treatment and prescribed fire. In this role, you will also monitor habitat conditions and assist with the coordination of maintenance for public use infrastructure.  About the Position 
 In this role, you will... 
 
 
 Participate in coordinating activities necessary to properly manage County-owned natural lands and support public use. 
 
 
 Document, monitor, and treat exotic plant occurrences on natural area lands. 
 
 
 Develop contract specifications and perform contractor oversight for land management activities. 
 
 
 Assist in the collection, analysis, and evaluation of land management activities and projects. 
 
 
 Conduct report and document preparation (management plans, interoffice reports, grant reports). 
 
 
 Work with Emergency Services on prescribed burns. 
 
 
 Provide site maintenance and upkeep of trails, preserve amenities, and signage. 
 
 
 Develop and conduct&#xa0;environmental/educational&#xa0;programs. 
 
 
 Ensure equipment maintenance and upkeep. 
 
 
 &#xa0; 
 Work Hours: 
 
 
 Full-Time, 40 hours per week. 
 
 
 Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. 
 
 
 On rare occasions, days and hours can vary based on prescribed fires, including extending days beyond 8 hours. 
 
 
 &#xa0; About You 
 Minimum Qualifications:  
 
 
 Bachelor&#39;s degree from an accredited college or university in one of the biological or physical sciences or related field&#xa0; and &#xa0;two (2) years of professional experience. 
 
 
 -OR- Master&#39;s degree may substitute for one year of professional experience. 
 
 
 -OR- Professional responsible professional experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required college degree. 
 
 
 Ability to pass a moderate or arduous pack test within one (1) year of employment&#xa0; and &#xa0;to pass on an annual basis. 
 
 
 Ability to obtain FACS pesticide applicator license within ten (10) months of employment. ( We can help with this !)

 About This Position  
 
 Evaluate natural and altered habitats and develop management strategies for restoration and long-term maintenance 
 Prepare, implement, and update management plans, reports (including FCT reports), and required documentation for managed sites 
 Monitor, document, and manage invasive, nuisance, exotic, and listed plant and wildlife species, including development of long- and short-term invasive species plans 
 Develop annual prescribed burn plans and participate as a crew member on ecological burns 
 Oversee resource management projects, including bid specifications, contractor oversight, and contract management duties 
 Monitor and maintain park facilities and amenities to ensure safe and functional public use 
 Develop, coordinate, and deliver interpretive and educational programs for the public 
 Coordinate volunteers, respond to citizen concerns, and patrol County lands to maintain staff presence and address security issues 
 Assist with budget planning, grant applications, and supplemental funding efforts for resource management projects 
 Collaborate with County departments and state agencies, manage inter-agency agreements, review permits and research applications, and conduct conservation easement inspections
