JOB TITLE: Manager – Widefield Parks and Recreation
SALARY: According to placement on current salary table
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12-month position
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the procedures for evaluating non-licensed staff
REPORTS TO: Director of Parks and Recreation
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. All staff as assigned
JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Education: 1. Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation or related field 2. Post graduate Degree in Recreation or related field preferred Experience: 1. Five plus year’s youth and/or adult parks and recreation management experience preferred Certificates/Licenses: 1. Current Colorado Driver’s License 2. Current first aid and CPR certification JOB EXPECTATIONS: 1. Demonstrates effective organizational, problem solving and conflict resolution skills 2. Demonstrates punctuality and good attendance 3. Complies with all safety policies, practices, and procedures, including proper use of equipment 4. Reports all unsafe conditions/activities to supervisor, Human Resources or Risk Management 5. Continual compliance with regulations, rules or statutes related to Colorado State Board of Education Rules and Regulations, Colorado Department of Education and Colorado State Law JOB SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Demonstrates the ability to train, teach, and supervise others 4. Demonstrates knowledge and ability to plan, coordinate, and implement all levels of parks and recreation programming 5. Demonstrate ability to oversee the operation Parks and Recreation in the absence of the Director 6. Demonstrates ability to develop, market, and supervise successful programing for the community 7. Demonstrates knowledge of wide range of youth, adult, and senior programs to meet the needs of participants and provides efficient use of District facilities 8. Demonstrates skill and ability to develop program manuals and other documents related to programs 9. Demonstrates knowledge of inventory, ordering, maintenance, and accountability for all program related materials and supplies 10. Demonstrates knowledge of office procedures, methods and equipment, including computers, and applicable software program 11. Demonstrates ability to manage multiple tasks, with attention to detail and limited supervision 12. Demonstrates ability to solicit community participation in parks and recreation programming 13. Demonstrates ability to resolve interpersonal conflicts 14. Demonstrate the ability to lead and direct staff
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Works with the Director of Parks and Recreation to plan, create, and implement new program opportunities for the community 2. Supports Recreation Specialists with program development, organization, scheduling, marketing, staffing, and evaluation 3. Assists the Director of Parks and Recreation as assigned with staffing programs including hiring, assigning, supervising, and evaluating all full and part time employees 4. Assists in the development and implementation of staff handbook 5. Oversees the production of program flyers, program guides, and all marketing materials for Parks and Recreation programs 6. Administer and support development of Parks and Recreation software 7. Oversees the maintenance and development of the Parks and Recreation website 8. Attends trainings, registrations, and other related events as assigned by the Director of Parks and Recreation 9. Coordinates assigned programs and special events as assigned by the Director of Parks and Recreation 10. Enforces health and safety requirements related to all individuals and district programs and facilities 11. Oversees the sponsorship program 12. Creates plans for community outreach that will enhance new and existing programs 13. Works with recreation specialist to meet community needs in all program areas 14. Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively, get along with co-workers, and deal with colleagues in a professional manner 15. Models an effective understanding and respect for diversity and inclusion 16. Incorporates legal rights and due process for children with special needs 17. Demonstrates a positive attitude towards change 18. Performs such other tasks as may, from time to time, be assigned

The Mission of Widefield School District 3 Parks & Recreation is to create, promote, foster, and maintain programs, activities and facilities that positively impact the quality of life for all segments of our community.

The primary purpose of the WSD3 Parks & Recreation is to provide the best programs for the most people. While we will always seek to offer a wide range of programs, we recognize that we must live within our budget and believe that the highest priority for programs should be those that are educationally sound as well as personally meaningful to the community. We believe our programs must emphasize participation, value to participants, safety, equal opportunity, and lifelong skill development.
