This position will work under the direction of the Director of Parks & Recreation or designee. The Recreation Superintendent is responsible for various functions of the Booker T. Washington Recreation Center, Splash Station, Senior Center, Museum divisions and is responsible for the annual budget of those divisions. Performs management and administrative oversight of activities, programing, staff training, rental scheduling, recreation software, contracts and various other projects at a high level and in a fast-paced environment.

Must have basic bookkeeping skills to assure financial operations are handled properly
Must have working knowledge of business English, spelling, punctuation, arithmetic, office practices and procedures, and departmental rules and regulations
Must be able to keep sensitive information confidential
Must be an independent, self-starter with the ability to deal with the public well and respond to their questions or problems in a professional courteous manner
Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and to request clarification when needed
Ability to maintain established records and files
Ability to communicate professionally and effectively, both orally and in writing

General knowledge of municipal purchasing, operations and procedures
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in Park, Recreation, Business, Public Administration, Management, or other related field plus a minimum of four (4) years of experience parks and recreation, with at least two (2) year of which involved supervisory and managerial responsibilities; OR
High school diploma or its equivalent and at least six (6) years of experience in municipal parks and recreation, with at least three (3) of which involved supervisory and managerial responsibilities (some college courses in parks, recreation desirable); OR
Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED
A Valid Class C Texas driver license and the ability to maintain a satisfactory driving record
Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) or the ability to obtain within 180 days of hire
Certified Food Handler or ability to obtain with 180 days of hire
Certified First Aid, CPR, AED lay responder or the ability to obtain within 180 days of hire
Certified Parks and Recreation Professional preferred
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS AND SAFETY HAZARDS
Primarily in an indoor environment with the ability to operate outdoors when needed. May be exposed to extreme heat and cold during summer and winter months.
