POSITION DUTIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

Provides information to the public through a variety of means including: answering constituent phone calls and e-mails, maintaining contact with the news media and social media content, on-line communication, writing and distributing news releases, delivering presentations, planning and organizing special events and developing collateral materials. Conceptualizes and produces marketing packages and communications materials. Develops partnerships with public and private entities.

Position Specific Summary
The Public Information Specialist position at the City of Tucson’s Parks and Recreation Department assists in the dissemination of public information to increase public knowledge, engagement, and utilization of City programs, services, and opportunities. This position creates multimedia content and campaigns, designs marketing materials, produces visual content, and ensures department’s online presence to promote parks recreational programs, employment opportunities, and special events.
Work is performed under the supervision of the Public Information Officer. This position does not supervise.
Duties and Responsibilities
Creates and distributes marketing materials including flyers, brochures, advertisements, and rack cards to promote events, job openings, and programs for recreation centers, administration, and aquatics. Ensures all materials adhere to branding guidelines and maintain the department’s brand identity.
Updates and edits the department’s website consistently, ensuring all content is accurate and current.
Plans, conceptualizes, films, photographs, writes, and edits social media content to create awareness about various parks, pools, programs, and employment opportunities. Collaborates with other units in the department to create fun and engaging content and follows through to completion. Hosts media days to take video and photos to use on social media and printed materials. Uses social media content to raise public awareness and to promote the department’s image and visibility within the City of Tucson's communities.
Tracks metrics of engagement and audience behaviors to assess the effectiveness of campaigns and optimize communication strategies.
Sets up and staffs the Parks and Recreation tent at events. Assists sponsors and vendors, hands out swag, engages with event attendees, promotes the department and programs, and takes photographs to post on social media throughout the event. Hosts groundbreaking and ribbon-cutting events for capital projects including creating agendas, coordinating event logistics, marketing the event, and event wrap-up.
Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Bachelor’s degree Work Experience: Three (3) years of directly related experience License/Certifications: A valid and unrestricted Arizona driver’s license with two (2) years of licensed driving is required.
