JOB DESCRIPTION: The Assistant Director of Operations is responsible for the day-to-day operations of recreation facilities including the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center, Gertner Field, CRWC Field, and tennis courts related to access, risk management, operational hours, housekeeping and maintenance, reservations, personnel, equipment purchases and facility policies. In addition, the Assistant Director is responsible for budgetary planning, developing reports, and participating in the long-term planning. This position reports to the Associate Director. Evening, weekend, and holiday hours required. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Direct the recruitment, hiring, training, supervision, evaluation, and scheduling of a fulltime coordinator and student staff; Responsible for the professional development and training of fulltime, and student operations staff; Provide feedback, instruction, and guidance to support professional growth of staff and to ensure departmental initiatives are accomplished
Provide leadership and management for all facilities and operations to include facility inspections, cleanliness, maintenance, and documentation; Contribute to the development of routine and preventative maintenance plans, procedures and assist with management of their execution; assist with coordination of the repair and replacement of fitness and other equipment
Assess, evaluate, and mitigate risk for all facilities to ensure compliance with university, local and state standards, as well as follow industry standards; Contributes to departmental risk and safety plans in collaboration with the departmental Safety Committee; Create, interpret, and apply policies and procedures
Responsible for facility reservations including communications with rental groups, develop contract packets, formal user agreements and facility scheduling for departmental programs, student organizations, University Departments, and external groups. Ensure compliance with UH and departmental guidelines and procedures for all internal/external groups; Provide oversight for event coordination, logistics, and event management as needed
Responsible for developing and maintaining partnerships with both internal and external partners within the Division, academic units, and external groups; Contributes to the development and execution of partner agreements and the scheduling and execution of events
Develops, administers, and analyzes operations budget, financial records, and payroll processes; Maintains accurate records and creates various administrative reports including semester reports, assessment reports, and others; Contributes to long range strategic planning and assessment for operations
Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
A Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology, Health Education, Physical Education, Sports Management, Recreation, or related field. Master’s degree preferred. Minimum requirements are at least three years of experience working in a leadership or supervisory capacity with an emphasis on staff development, fiscal management, program implementation, and facility operations/management. The ideal applicant will have a minimum of 5- years of progressive experience. Applicants should demonstrate ability to lead and manage a Coordinator, and student employees. Strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as demonstrated leadership ability are also desirable. Team oriented ideals, willingness to work hard, and a desire to learn is important in this position.

The Department of Campus Recreation has a $53 million facility that contains various activity spaces including gymnasiums, multi-purpose rooms, and an indoor climbing wall. The aquatic facilities recently went through an $8.6 million dollar renovation in June 2015, and include a natatorium complete with a competition pool, indoor spa, and dry sauna; and an outdoor leisure pool featuring waterfalls, a slide, outdoor spa, and sand volleyball. The 70-meter indoor competition pool contains three fiberglass bulkheads allowing for unique set-up opportunities for competitions and recreation. The natatorium is home to the UH Varsity Swim and Dive program, as well as partners with several local organizations.
