The City of Ventura is now accepting applications for the position of Recreation Supervisor. There are currently two (2) vacancies with the Arts & Culture Section and Event Permits & Customer Service Section, respectively.
The Recreation Supervisor works under direction of the Recreation Manager and is responsible for coordinating, organizing, and supervising major and/or multiple recreation, cultural, or social service programs. This position plans, directs, coordinates, and participates in assigned special projects and community events. The Recreation Supervisor provides specialized technical and professional assistance in assigned area of responsibility.
Arts & Culture Section currently includes the Barranca Vista Center; city’s public art program; the Olivas Adobe, Albinger Archeological Museum, and Ortega Adobe historical sites; youth, adult, and senior programs and classes; Music Under the Stars summer concert series; and Cultural Funding Grant program.
Event Permits & Customer Service Section currently includes citywide permits for special events, free speech events, and block parties; department events such as the Pushem Pullem Parade & July 4th Street Fair; department customer service operations including the ActiveNet software registration system; department website content; and Special Event Grant program.
Seniors & Community Services Section currently includes citywide senior programs and services; grant-funded senior nutrition program; the Ventura Avenue Adult Center; department independent contract instructors; citywide community gardens; department volunteer opportunities; and Community Partnerships Grant Program.
Sports Section currently includes youth and adult sports programs and classes; adult sports leagues; tennis and pickleball; sports field allocations; Ventura Youth Basketball Association, Leo Robbins Community Sailing Center; and Corporate Games.
Youth Activities Section currently includes the Westpark Community Center; youth and adult programs and classes; afterschool programs, and City-facilitated summer camps.
The Department may rotate or cross-train supervisors between sections.
Distinguishing Characteristics
The Recreation Supervisor is the first-line supervisory level within the Recreation series. The job class performs the full range of duties in oversight of major or multiple leisure or cultural programs, with direction from the Recreation Manager. Incumbents assigned to this classification function independently when performing day-to-day program administration and are given latitude for decision making, in recommending policy and solutions to problems, and providing supervision to staff.

SALARY: $81,614.83 - $109,365.36 Annually DOQ

Position Qualifications
A combination of education, training and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in public administration, recreation, cultural arts, social services or related field, and two years of progressively responsible experience in leisure services or cultural program operations, including supervision of staff and program development, are required.
License: Depending on assignment, possession of a valid California Class C driver's license may be required.
