GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE POSITION:
The Recreation Coordinator performs professional duties in planning, developing, coordinating, implementing, and supervision recreation, arts, and special events for the Board of Parks Commissioners. The position assists in the operation of Parks and Recreation facilities.
This position oversees the day-to-day operations of the recreational aspects of the Park and Recreation Department including the Splash Zone, Clarksburg Amphitheater, Concession Facilities, and Recreational Programs as well as performs other related work as directed by the Parks and Recreation Superintendent.
To assist the Superintendent in the direction and operations of these facilities and programs.
DUTIES OF THE POSITION:
Splash Zone/Mini Golf
Oversee the day-to-day operations of the facility while open as well as the preparation and closing procedures of the property.
Recruit, interview, hire, train, supervise and schedule for all seasonal positions including management, maintenance, cashiers, lifeguards, and concessions.
Create a media marketing program to promote the Splash Zone and work with local media as well as social media platforms to advertise.
Clarksburg Amphitheater
Work directly with music agents on bringing acts to the amphitheater.
Review of potential acts, negotiations with agents, schedule of events.
Review and accept contract & rider.
Coordinate with local businesses for sound, lighting , catering, travel, hotel, and staffing.
Recruiting sponsors for events.
Manage the website and link with ticketing agency for EPK for artists and ways to purchase tickets through ShoWare.
Provide logistical support to areas assigned for events and programs to include equipment set up and breakdown while monitoring of the facility during the event.
Concession Operations
Manage the day-to-day operations of all concessions at the following areas:
Clarksburg Splash Zone, Amphitheater and Frank Loria Field.
Recruit, interview, hire, train, supervise and schedule for all seasonal positions including food handlers, cashiers, and managers.
Special Events
Market, promote and communicate with organizations utilizing park facilities for rental and attending meetings with said companies to discuss what activities can be allowed.
Recreational Programs
Develop, market, and organize park related programs for all properties from start to finish. Set up thinktanks through staff meetings during the off season to discuss plans for seasonal projects/programs.
Office
Assist with the day-to-day operations of the City Parks Office including answering phones, reservations, etc.
Physical Demands
Work is performed both inside and outside with exposure to adverse weather conditions including extreme heat, cold, wetness and humidity.
Hand-eye coordination necessary to operate computers and various pieces of office and assigned equipment.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
While performing duties on the job, the employee may be required to sit, stand, walk, bend, talk and hear; use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms; bend/stoop, crawl, grasp, kneel, pull, and handle fine manipulations and repetitive motion.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds.
DESCRIPTION OF SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Works directly under the supervision of the Director of Parks and Recreation.
DESCRIPTION OF SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Supervises and provides guidance and training to the part-time employees of the City of Clarksburg Board of Park Commissioners including Amphitheater Staff, Concession Staff, Playground personnel and Program Instructors.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR PERFORMANCEOF THE WORK:
Knowledge in office administration, accounting, grant writing, personnel management, concession operation, and entertainment is preferred.
Possess effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to deal harmoniously with all levels of personnel, the business community, and the general public. Possess effective organizational skills.
Available to work a variable work schedule that may include early and late hours as well as weekends and holidays.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school in a recreation related field
Minimum 3-year experience in a supervisory and event planning/organization experience
Certified Pool Operator or Lifeguard Instructor or able to be trained for those certifications.
