The individual in this position provides leadership and general oversight of the Parks and Recreation Department. The Director oversees the employees responsible for the development, maintenance, and operations of the City trails and park system grounds and structures, open spaces, as well as the provision of activities and services to community members of all backgrounds. The department includes four divisions: Parks and Recreation, Brookview facilities, Golf, and the 316 Bar and Restaurant.
The Parks and Recreation Director serves as a member of the City’s senior leadership team, involves significant community engagement and public involvement, and collaborates with all City departments on strategy and policy to ensure that the City’s mission and core values are incorporated into operational activities and services.
Expected Hours of Work Hours are typically Monday-Friday from 8 am to 4:30 pm. In addition to working office hours, staff may be required to work additional events. Hours may include, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Park and Recreation Administration, Public Administration, Landscape Architecture, or closely related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Five years managerial experience in public administration, parks and recreation management, or related field.
Three years supervisory experience of professional staff.
Experience advocating for and implementing diversity, equity, and inclusion into policies, programs, projects, and services.
Experience and knowledge with planning short-term and long-term strategic plans.
Experience developing and managing department budgets.
Experience managing municipal enterprise funds.
Ability to complete the essential duties and responsibilities of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
Desired Qualifications
Certification through the National Recreation and Park Association.
Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and work in a positive and cooperative manner with outside agencies, citizen groups, boards and commissions, supervisors, other employees and the public.
Experience and commitment to collaboration and building strong partnerships with external organizations and other public agencies.
