Hiring range is $65,000 - $75,394 annually based on qualifications, education and experience as it relates to the position.
Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Recreation Manager, this position is responsible for the oversight and coordination of comprehensive District-wide aquatics operations and programs to support the overall organization mission and goals. The Aquatics Manager provides leadership and day-to-day supervision of the operation of various indoor and outdoor pools with numerous features, as well as various aquatics programs including: swim lessons, swim teams, CPR/AED & First Aid Classes, birthday parties and group rentals.
Essential Duties:
Oversee and lead operations and staff within the aquatics division at a variety of locations (3 Indoor year round; 4 Outdoor Seasonal) with a strong focus on safety, customer satisfaction, creating a positive work environment, innovation, facility maintenance and cleanliness.
Hire, train, schedule, supervise and evaluate personnel; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies and provide disciplinary action when appropriate.
Prepare and monitor budget, manage revenues and expenditures and prepare financial reports. Prepare purchase orders, RFP’s, and invoice requests. Prepare short and long-range revenue/expenditure projections, check revenue streams, etc. Develop and implement strategies to increase usage of assigned areas. Calculate program fees to meet cost-recovery goals. Formulating comprehensive business plans by researching and analyzing market information is essential.
Prepare, enforce, maintain and modify policies and procedures manuals; conduct periodic staff meetings to provide and gather information, answer questions and respond to complaints and concerns, both internally and externally.
Provide leadership and direction of short and long range plans, goals and vision, as well as implement and communicate District plans, policies and procedures to the staff and public.
Enforce high risk management and program standards through a combination of staff training, adequate procedures and regular review/updates. Comply with local, state and national regulations. Ensure staff maintain proper certification requirements for lifeguarding, water safety, CPR/AED & First Aid and pool operations. Lifeguard and/or instruct as needed or required.
Continuously evaluate facilities and programs to identify opportunities to improve service delivery, communication, expanded opportunities, risk management and the physical facilities.
Consistently provide superior internal and external customer service and strive to create a positive customer experience to promote on-going and repeat business. Work to resolve any escalated customer concerns and/or complaints. Maintain high level of communication through effective in-person and written methods.
Plan, direct and oversee multiple capital projects independently or in conjunction with other District staff.
Develop and maintain relationships with District employees, vendors, and various outside user groups to coordinate their programs and special events.
Maintain records and generate reports as directed; including, but not limited to: attendance reports, program reports, safety checks, maintenance/chemical logs, payroll documentation, incident/accident reports, staff certifications and personnel evaluations.
Have working knowledge regarding all mechanical systems within aquatic facilities and demonstrate ability to react as necessary to water conditions. Troubleshoot common pump, filtration and chemical feeding system issues.
Work cooperatively with various District staff including, but not limited to: maintenance/construction, communications, other recreation divisions and registration services.
Supervise collection and handling of all monies for programs and activities; ensures that monies are collected and handled according to District policy. Maintains all financial records and performs reporting.
Determine community needs by evaluating programs and activities; make recommendations for improvement and future development, and implement changes.
Purchase, maintain and inventory program and facility supplies.
Collaborate with various community partners (schools, cities, etc.) to develop relationships, provide programs and create new opportunities.
Develop, implement, and track results of all marketing strategies; notify the public of District events. Promote positive image of the Aquatics Program to the public. Participate in community planning and organizational meetings.
Attend and participate in professional group meetings; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of aquatics recreational services.
Attend and participate in program, department and District meetings, as well as serve on a variety of District wide committees.
Attend and participate in staff meetings, trainings, and orientations.
Attend work on a regular, reliable and punctual basis.

Education and/or Experience:
A Bachelor Degree in Recreation or a closely related field preferred.
Four (4) years progressive aquatics experience with a minimum of two (2) years supervisory experience with multiple levels of staff.
Experience in management of a large aquatics facility or managing multiple active facilities concurrently is preferred.
A combination of education and experience may be considered.
Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements:
Certified Pool Operator or Aquatic Facility Operator or equivalent
American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor or equivalent
American Red Cross Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR or equivalent
American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor or equivalent
American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Trainer preferred.
Water Safety Instructor Trainer preferred.
Must possess a valid Colorado Driver License or the ability to obtain upon hire and maintain an acceptable driving record.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the general philosophy of Aquatics and Recreation and its application; facility operations management; safety and emergency first-aid procedures; customer service principles; establishing and maintaining healthy pool water; pump and filtration operations and chemical feeding equipment.
Knowledge of the planning and organization of aquatics instruction and water safety programs.
Knowledge of budget planning and management.
Skills in swimming, lifeguarding and lifesaving procedures and instruction and water safety programs.
Skills in recruiting, training, supervising, evaluating, motivating employees.
The ability to successfully establish and maintain safe and fun pool environments.
Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced and high volume environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness.
Must be highly motivated with excellent interpersonal and communication and customer service skills, both written and verbally.
Ability to provide outstanding customer service and get along with coworkers, patrons, and supervisors and interact with employees and vendors in a professional manner.
Ability to work productively without supervision within established policies and procedures.
Ability to effectively handle cash-flow and daily cash reports with accuracy and proper handling in adherence to established procedures.
Ability to safely extricate people from a pool who vary in weight, with or without assistance, at any time.
Ability to react effectively to all potential mental, physical, and stressful situations inherent to the duties of a First Responder; hear noises either naturally or with electronic auditory assistance equivalent to that of normal conversation up to 30 meters away. Must have 20/20 vision or 20/20 vision corrected by eyeglasses or contact lenses.
Material and Equipment Used:
To successfully perform the required job duties, this position regularly uses a phone, computer, cash register, credit-card machine, calculator, printer, fax and other common office equipment. This position also regularly uses and operates: first-aid supplies and equipment; pump and filtration equipment; chemical feeding equipment; various pool chemicals, circulation and chlorination equipment; and simple hand-tools. This position may need to drive a personal vehicle to various District facilities.
Working Environment:
This position primarily works in a comfortable office environment subject to interruptions and background noise. This position may require work in a variety of settings including working outdoors subject to variable weather conditions, ecosystems, and landscape. May regularly be in water. Pool facility environments can be loud, wet, humid, and have extreme temperature variations.
Physical Requirements:
Stand, walk, swim, sit, handle and operate objects and equipment, reach outward and above shoulder and carry, pull, push or lift up to 25 lbs. May occasionally climb, crawl, squat, kneel and lift up to 50 lbs. The employee must be able to see close up and at a distance with vision acuity and the ability to adjust focus allowing a broad field of vision. The employee must communicate clearly and effectively, must understand and be understood.
