Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Parks and Recreation Director, plans, develops, implements, coordinates, supervises, evaluates, and performs work in various athletic, aquatic and recreation-related programs for children, youth, adult, and senior participants. Oversees organization of recreation programs and personnel. Supervises related personnel.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

In conjunction with the Human Resources Department, reviews applications, interviews candidates and makes hiring recommendations to Parks and Recreation Director; assists with new hire paperwork as needed; communicates staffing needs to the Human Resources Department.
Supervises Recreation staff to include: prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff are trained; ensuring that employees follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy and safe working environment; and making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations
Works with the Parks & Recreation Director with planning, promoting, coordinating, directing, supervising, evaluating, and modifying applicable recreation program(s).
Plans, coordinates, organizes, and supervises the activities of specific activities or programs; supervises program instructors, event staff, and/or related personnel; ensures appropriate equipment and materials are available for the successful operations of assigned program(s).
Represents the department with the public and with outside groups, organizations, and agencies; responds to a wide variety of questions, comments, and/or concerns; resolves related complaints.
Assists Parks and Recreation Director and Parks and Recreation Director with annual budget recommendations.
Seeks funds for recreation programs and facilities through sponsorships, fundraisers, and grants.
Prepares and maintains a variety of records and/or reports related assigned programs, including financial reports that summarize and/or outline incoming and outgoing funds.
Oversees publication and promotion of programs using a variety of media sources; oversees the distribution and/or dissemination of promotional materials.
Responsible for implementing related City safety program elements in the Recreation Department.
Creates program schedules and activities calendars; schedules City-owned fields for applicable programs and outside organization programs.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
May represent the Parks and Recreation Department of the City in various capacities on panels, committees, task forces and relevant forums.
Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned.
This position is full-time with benefits including Medical, Dental, Vision, and Life insurance, as well as retirement, vacation, sick, and holiday pay. This is an exempt position with the starting salary range of $61,599 - $70,969 per year, depending on experience and qualifications. This position closes on October 1st, 2023 at 12:00pm.

Experience and Training:
Minimum Education: Bachelor’s Degree in recreation or sports management, physical education, exercise science, health & fitness or other closely related field required or a combination of experience and education to equal 6 years related experience in the field of recreation.
Job Certifications: First Aid/CPR/AED certification or ability to attain certifications in 3 months. CPO or AFO Certification or ability to attain certification within 6 months. Certified Food Protection Manager certification or ability to attain certification within 6 months. A certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) is preferred and highly recommended.
Job Requirements: Valid Colorado Driver’s License or ability to obtain with six months of hire. Must be able to pass a background check and MVR with results that are acceptable to the City of Rifle. Ability to work evening and weekend hours as required.
Work Experience Related to This Job: Experience must include 1-2 years of direct supervisory experience.
