Join Our Team:
As a Parks Planner and Designer with Lane County, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our parks and open spaces. Your work will be at the heart of our commitment to providing critical services to our community members through innovative programs, beautification projects, and ensuring that our open spaces are accessible to all county residents.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Visionary Planning: Collaborate with Parks Management, Operations, and Management teams to define short-term and long-term goals and prioritize projects. You will be an integral part of our comprehensive parks and open space planning efforts, contributing to the preparation of master plans that set the course for the future.
2. Expertise and Advocacy: Assist with the development and updates of the Parks and Open Space Master Plan, providing your expertise to align it with the County’s Comprehensive Plan and Land Development Code. Advocate for parks, recreation, and landscape design within the larger framework of county development.
3. Community Engagement: Actively participate in fostering cooperation and teamwork, supporting constructive resolution of conflicts, and ensuring an inclusive process for diversity within the workplace. Create multiple platforms for public input to encourage equity and inclusion, bringing residents, partner agencies, non-profits, and advocacy groups together to shape our open spaces.
4. Sustainable Design: Review private development plans, green infrastructure projects, and land use applications to enhance public access and ensure effectiveness, longevity, and maintainability. Apply basic design principles, including Aesthetic Design, Functional Design, Economic Development, Environmental Conservation, and Social/Cultural Empowerment.
5. Leadership: Manage complex special projects or programs, coordinate project activities, and present staff reports for decision-making bodies. Your work will involve managing project compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as coordinating with various agencies, committees, commissions, and the public.
6. Environmental Stewardship: Play a vital role in managing the County's Capital Improvement Program (CIP), working with stakeholders, staff, and Advisory Boards to develop recommendations for sustainable park development projects.
7. Collaboration: Collaborate with agencies such as the City of Eugene, City of Springfield, City of Florence, Oregon Division of State Lands, Army Corps of Engineers, and others to obtain permits and ensure compliance with regulations that protect natural resources, wetlands, cultural heritage, and historic preservation.

About the Division
Lane County's parks and open spaces are located in the region's most beautiful natural areas and offer opportunities for year-round recreation. There are abundant trails for hiking and biking, ocean beaches and covered bridges to photograph and explore, and lakes and rivers to fish and float. Visitors and residents come to camp, fish, picnic, and play. Lane County Parks hosts over three million visitors per year at 68 recreational sites that total over 4,300 acres. These sites offer reservoir access, river access, marinas, and a variety of camping options.

QUALIFICATIONS
Training:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a field related to area of assignment (preferably in landscape architecture OR urban and regional planning); and sufficient experience as necessitated by the competency level of the position.
Preferred qualifications:
Master's degree from an accredited college or university in a field related to area of assignment (preferably in landscape architecture OR urban and regional planning) .
Possession of State of Oregon registration as a licensed Landscape Architect.
Experience:
Journey Level (N4304): 2-5 years of progressively responsible professional experience
Specialized knowledge specific to area of assignment may be required.
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

Must be in possession of a valid driver's license at time of application, and a valid Oregon Driver's license by time of appointment.

Physical Requirements:
Positions in this class typically require: talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
