Southwestern University, located in Georgetown has an immediate opening for a Head Athletic Trainer. This position serves as administrator of the Athletic Training services program including but not limited to supervision of certified & licensed athletic trainers and graduate interns; liaison among athletic staff, athletes, parents, and physicians; emergency care for student-athletes; treatment and rehabilitation of injuries; medical documentation; insurance; budgeting; etc. This individual may also teach in the Exercise and Sport Studies (ESS) program. This is a full-time, fully benefited, exempt position who reports to the Senior Associate Director of Intercollegiate Athletics.
Primary Duties: •Direct the delivery of athletic training services according to established practice guidelines for NCAA Intercollegiate Athletics to the student-athletes. Those services include wellness promotion, injury and illness prevention, emergency care, examination, assessment, diagnosis, immediate care, therapeutic intervention, and administration of all student athletes’ health and well-being. •Manage the health care coverage of student-athletes including athletic training room coverage and medical coverage of competitions and practices. •Manage the Athletic Training Department including budget, inventory, personnel, supplies, and equipment maintenance. •Mentor staff on performance goals and provide yearly review. Lead and educate staff, athletic training students on use of rehabilitation tools, treatment modalities, and athletic training room policy and procedures. •Travel as required with intercollegiate teams to away practice sessions and competitions. •Manage the athletic department risk assessment. •Develop and maintain effective working relationships with the Chief Medical Officer, Team Physicians, Physician’s Assistants, and all other medical consultants. •Responsible for providing effective written and oral communication between student-athletes, coaches, sports performance coaches, administrators, and team physicians regarding the status and progress of injured student-athletes. This communication can include parents. •Perform administration duties such as medical documentation of injuries, treatments, etc.; insurance coordination; coordination of student-athletic trainers’ coverage/work schedules; and student recruitment. •Ensure compliance with all relevant institutional, athletic conference, and NCAA rules and regulations. •Provide clinical instruction and support of student athletic trainer interns and workers. •Assist with Campus and Athletic Department functions (e.g. search committees, department committees, campus committees etc.) •Teaching in the ESS program. •Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
Minimum of a master’s degree.
Possess current certification from the National Athletic Trainers Association – Board of Certification (NATA-BOC).
Possess current license from the Texas Advisory Board of Athletic Trainers.
Possess current instructor credentials in CPR, First Aid, and AED.
Minimum of five years’ experience as a certified athletic trainer.
Willingness to adhere to the University’s core values.

Ability to lift and carry a minimum of forty-five pounds.
Ability to attend work consistently and maintain a regular work schedule.
Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Texas Driver’s License.
Ability to pass a University Van Driver’s Course.
Preferred Position Requirements:
Background or training in Athletic Training, Kinesiology, or a related field.
Strong organization and time management skills.
Strong computer skills and ability to learn software associated with the needs of athletic training.
