Who We Are Looking For:
Do you have a passion for the arts and have experience creating, planning and managing art programs? If so, you may be just who we are looking for! The Art Director will office at the Hubbard Arts Center, and will develop, execute, promote and evaluate a comprehensive art program. Will ensure arts staff and volunteers have support and materials that are needed to effectively execute the arts programs, and support art events to ensure they are safe and well run.
What Winning as an Art Director Looks Like:
Supervision of all youth and adult art programs. This would include arts, culinary arts, dramatics, dance, and technology classes.
Administer, develop, promote and supervise all art program offerings.
Responsible for training and supervision of all art staff, volunteers and instructors.
Responsible for hiring, supervision, and evaluation of the Culinary Arts Coordinator.
Work with Supervisors and Marketing Director in planning and implementing various marketing strategies. Produce accurate and timely material for the production of quarterly program guide.
Keep adequate records pertaining to attendance, budget, registration fees, etc.
Serves as the Derby Recreation Commission liaison to the Derby Arts Council.
Coordinate all the art related fund-raising activities.
Coordinate any special events relating to youth or adult arts.
Responsible for the management, upkeep and proper storage of all art supplies and equipment.
Prepare annual budget, capitol improvement and equipment needs for art programs and facilities.
Seek federal and state grant opportunities.
Promote youth and adult art programs to the community through oral presentations and written communication.
Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
Graduate from an accredited college or university with a degree in Fine Arts or related field is preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
2-5 years previous experience in management and/or instructing the arts.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Need to have the ability to see, hear and move about. Must posses an audible voice for communication and ability to lift light equipment.
GENERAL:
Comprehensive knowledge of, and ability to implement, high quality arts programming. Strong planning and organizational skills. Experience with operating various art equipment such as kilns, pug mills etc. Energetic, creative individual with a strong interpersonal skills. Must be 18 and have a valid driver’s license. Should maintain a CPR/AED and First Aid certification. Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
The Derby Recreation Commission is an autonomous governmental body governed by a five-member board. The board is appointed by the City of Derby (two members) the school board (two members) and an at-large appointment.
The Derby Recreation Commission operates the Derby Recreation Center, the Oaklawn Activity Center, and the Hubbard Arts Center. The DRC manages Rock River Rapids aquatic center, assist in the maintenance and rentals of High Park and Derby ballfields, maintains a bus/van fleet, and assist with various community projects.
The DRC offers more than 1300 programs and special activities annually. This includes a broad-spectrum including fitness, arts, sports, aquatics, culinary, special populations, and youth and adult recreation activities. It employs 31 full-time employees as well as 340 plus seasonal and part-time employees.
