JOB SUMMARY:
The Superintendent - Parksutilizes strong people management skills tocoordinate, supervise, schedule and review the work of the parks North, South and Right-of-Way crews. Assigns projects to be done, coordinates activities and reviews progress. Handles personnel matters, hires, evaluates, trains and terminates employees. Develops estimates and administers several units of the budget and makes recommendations to the Assistant Director.
DUTIES :
Coordinates the activities and work assignments of North, South and Right-of-Way crews. Consults with field supervisors concerning work projects, maintenance of parks, personnel and scheduling.
Facilitates equipment needs of the division. Prepares purchase requests for ordering materials and supplies for park operations, including obtaining specifications for new equipment and repairs.
Performs personnel related duties including hiring, training, coaching, performance evaluations, and discipline.
Coordinates and oversees landscape and beautification projects with park staff and contractors, as well as special maintenance programs.
Performs outdoor inspections and surveys of parks, trees, trails, and field sites.
Assures safety standards and departmental procedures are followed. Conducts monthly safety meetings.
Reviews and handles complaints from citizens. Assists with public relations by giving informational speeches to various groups. Regularly attends Parks and Recreation Board and similar meetings and periodically makes presentations.
Coordinates with key parks and recreation staff management, citizen volunteer groups, and other city departments on various activities that need assistance from the Parks Division.
Keeps Director and Assistant Director informed of projects.
1. Bachelor's degree in Parks and Recreation or related field from an accredited college or university.
2. Must obtain Texas Department of Agriculture Certified Non-Commercial Pesticide Applicator License in plant pest control, weed control, and right-of-way control within six months.
3. Valid Texas driver's license with acceptable driving record (must obtain TX driver’s license within 90 days).
4. Three years experience in a professional level related role.
5. Demonstrated prior supervisory experience.
OR
6. An equivalent combination of education, experience, certification and/or licenses sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
PREFERRED:
1. Five years experience in a professional level related role.
2. Project management experience.
3. National Playground Safety Institute Certified Playground Inspector.
