The Role:
As the Parks and Recreation Director, you will perform complex professional and administrative work pertaining to District parks, recreational facilities, year-round sports, programs, and fitness for all groups and ages. This role is responsible for and oversees the coordination of community use of parks, recreation, and school facilities. Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage all operations including the care and maintenance of all District’s parks and recreational facilities. May assist with snow removal, event set-up, painting, sawing, rough carpentry, and related mechanical, electrical, plumbing and irrigation system maintenance.
Develop best practices and plans for turf maintenance, water conservation, and tree care.
Supervise and provide training, developing, and monitoring progress of the Parks Manager, Recreation Manager, Programs Manager, Facility Manager, Custodian Coordinator, Aquatics Manager, and part-time staff in all aspects of parks and recreation facility and programming tasks.
Manage the Athletic, Program/Fitness, and Facilities (athletic program, youth, adult, seniors, concessions, and front desk operations) which includes development and oversight of comprehensive programming, development of the budget, recommending fees and expenditures, and supervising staff.
Assist in preparing and monitoring the parks and recreation division's This includes preparing financial reports, maintaining records of material, work hours, equipment, operating costs, preparing purchase orders, materials, supply requisitions, and revenue/expense projections.
Develop, coordinate, and implement short and long-range goals for parks and recreation programs and facilities.
Assist the Executive Director with the acquisition and development of parks and recreation facilities, including coordination and development of parks and recreation facility construction projects and joint school and town use facilities.
Provide technical assistance on capital improvement projects, athletic sports, program/ fitness classes, concessions, and front desk.
Develop and recommend procedures, guidelines, rules and regulations for operation of parks, recreation facilities and programs.
Perform work safely in accordance with division safety procedures and the District Safety Program. Operates equipment safely and reports any unsafe work condition or practice to your supervisor.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Skills and Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Parks and Recreation, Business, Organizational management, or related field.
7+ years of experience in park and recreation administration, public works maintenance or construction, 5 years of supervisory experience.
Equivalent combination of experience and education which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions may be substituted for required education.
Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP)
Comprehensive knowledge of all phases of community parks and recreational facilities and their operation and administration.
Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and methods of park planning, development, construction, and recreational programming and management
Advanced knowledge of turf care and irrigation management
Prove ability to build teamwork and effectively manage and supervise employees.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with District employees, outside agencies and organizations, and the general public.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and analyze information to make
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee works in all kinds of weather conditions and within various environments. The employee is exposed to weather and temperature extremes and chemicals such as herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers. The employee uses maintenance equipment including tractors, mowers, chainsaws, weed eaters, blowers, and various other related equipment. The employee is exposed to dirt, dust, grease, loud noises, foul odors, vibration, fumes, heights, work safety hazards, occasional overtime. Extended work hours, darkness, and cramp spaces.
