The City of Ventura is hiring! The City of Ventura’s Parks and Recreation Department has an immediate vacancy for the position of Tree Maintenance Leadworker. If you have tree maintenance experience while leading a crew, this job is for you!

The Tree Maintenance Leadworker is a "working" lead position, responsible for the work prioritization and assignments of three Tree Maintenance Workers. With responsibility for providing training to crew and improving work methods and procedures, this leadworker also assigns work orders, coordinates on call schedules, and ensures crew safety at all times while staff is involved in the planting and maintenance of City owned trees. In addition, the Tree Maintenance Leadworker exercises independent judgement in responding to customer service needs, including onsite meetings with residents, returning calls, emails and responding to Comcates The Tree Maintenance Leadworker assumes overall responsibility for the supervision, administration, and operation of the Tree section, promoting work practices that build teamwork and a productive work unit.

Incumbents may be required to work stand-by on rotational basis and report to work on a callback basis as needed within a designated time frame. This position may be required to work a non-traditional shift that includes weekends and holidays. Standby assignment is at the discretion of the Division Head.
Position Qualifications
Combination of education, training and experience equivalent to high school graduation and two years of journey level tree maintenance experience. Lead or supervisory experience, coursework, or training is highly desirable. Computer courses and technical training in arboriculture, grounds maintenance, insect/pest control, botany, etc. is highly desirable.
License: Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license. Within six months of employment, incumbent is required to obtain and, thereafter, maintain the following licenses:
Valid California State Class B license with the allowable auto transmission restriction.
According to the Department of Transportation (DOT), drug testing is required.
Certificates: Within one year of appointment to position, obtain and thereafter maintain, an Arborist certification issued from the International Society of Arboriculture.

Salary: $25.66 - $31.19 Hourly DOQ
