Brief Summary of Work for this Position: This position is technical and supervisory in the responsibilities for the landscape maintenance and overall turf grass program (natural and artificial) management for the athletics department. This includes fields and surrounding grounds for all of the following: Brooks Field, UNCW Baseball Practice Field, Boseman Field, UNCW Soccer Stadium, Tennis Courts, UNCW Soccer Practice Field, Harold Greene Track Complex, beach volleyball courts within Campus Recreation. This position will directly supervise all staff assigned to the area of Grounds & Sports Turf.
Responsible for game management duties for UNCW Baseball and Softball and may include (but not limited to): field lining, field maintenance, field repair, irrigation management and waste management. This position may also assist the designated game manager in event management functions, facility management and crowd control. The Director of Grounds & Sports Turf must ensure all outdoor playing and practice environments are safe and clean. Note – some weekend and evening work required.
Graduation from High School or possession of a GED, and one year of experience in the area of Grounds and Sports Turf. Will accept an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Associate or bachelor's degree in horticulture, turf management or related field from an appropriately accredited institution and two to three years of experience in the development and implementation of landscape plans and grounds maintenance; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
