Supervises regular and temporary staff and volunteers: plans, coordinates, assigns and reviews work of individuals and the team; evaluates training needs and provides instruction; schedules staff vacations and approves sick leave; recommends discipline, disciplinary actions, discharge and salary increases; approves timesheets; interviews candidates; conducts employee performance evaluations; and establishes and promotes employee morale.
Organizes and assigns work: prioritizes and schedules work activities in order to meet objectives; manages the creation and distribution of employee work schedules ensuring adequate coverage and control; ensures subordinates have the proper resources needed to complete assigned work; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; consults with assigned staff to assist with complex or problem situations and provide technical expertise; trains and instructs employees regarding operational procedures and proper use of equipment; assists with revising procedure manuals as appropriate; and provides progress and activity reports to Manager, Revenue Facilities.
Plans and administers youth and adult recreational aquatics programs at the GCAC, which may include open swim, swim lessons, water fitness, lap swimming, swim meets and special events, etc.: establishes and distributes schedules, including dates, times and locations of classes, lessons, and events; assigns pool time and maintains and publishes related schedules and calendars; develops and administers policies with respect to scheduling, safety, and insurance; plans, prepares and submits content for marketing, website, social media and other communication platforms; enters program and event information into computer systems; and serves as a liaison between all participants and department staff.
Maintains inventory of aquatics equipment, uniforms, and supplies: ensures adequate materials to complete work activities; purchases equipment, uniforms, and supplies; ensures proper maintenance and storage of all equipment and supplies; and maintains inventory records.
Ensures the maintenance and preparation of pool and facilities for programs and events: assists in checking pool chemicals and adjusts as needed; unloads chemicals or supplies; sets up and tears down facility for special events; adjusts lane dimensions between short- and long-course as needed; assists in cleaning, stocking and maintaining bathrooms, locker rooms and general areas of the facility; picks up and removes garbage from bathrooms, kitchens, pool deck, outside areas and bleachers especially during special events; maintains cleanliness of facility; and communicates with maintenance personnel regarding ice rink, court and facility preparation, maintenance, and repair needs.
Performs customer service duties: receives and responds to inquiries and/or complaints regarding GCAC programs, policies, and/or personnel; provides information or directs inquiries to appropriate department resources; and investigates and resolves operational and procedural problems and complaints.
Performs general administrative duties in support of GCAC operations: prepares, reviews, and submits reports; enters and retrieves computer data; copies and files documents; monitors expenditures and revenues to ensure compliance with approved budget; etc.
Participates in strategic planning for the GCAC: researches, assesses and develops strategies to meet current and future issues and concerns regarding aquatic programming needs; and identifies and implements needed changes, modifications and/or enhancements.
Maintains a comprehensive, current knowledge of applicable policies, procedures, codes, rules, and regulations; maintains an awareness of new issues, methods, equipment, trends and advances in recreation and athletic programming; reads professional literature; maintains professional affiliations and certifications; participates in and conducts training and continuing education activities; and attends and conducts meetings, workshops and seminars as appropriate.
Minimum Qualifications: Associate degree in Business or a related field required; supplemented by two years of experience in aquatics facility programming; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Special License(s) or Certification(s) Required: Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina driver's license. Must possess and maintain the following additional certifications: Lifeguard; Lifeguard Instructor; Starfish Instructor; Starfish Instructor Trainer; and Aquatics Facility Operator.
