The Recreation Coordinator II- Youth Sports is an integral part of the Recreation Division within the City of Greeley and is responsible for coordinating youth sports, middle school sports, outdoor recreation programs and special events. This position is also responsible for hiring, training, developing and evaluating approximately 20 part-time staff and up to 60 program volunteers at any given time.
In relationship to the City of Greeley Core values; applied wisdom, excellence, accountability, stewardship, principled relationships, and integrity, a full time Recreation Coordinator II will bring fresh ideas and higher standards to assist in the Recreation Division in continuing to achieve quality programming and community excellence.
Personnel & Fiscal Management
Recruit, hire, train, schedule, supervise, mentor and evaluate volunteer coaches and part-time staff.
Utilize scheduling software and monitor employee hours in accordance with budget.
Conduct trainings for staff and volunteers on a regular basis related to a variety of topics including sport rules, officiating, and risk management.
Develop and mentor volunteers and staff to ensure quality instruction and leadership.
Assist in the development of program budgets and ensure expenses align with approved budget.
Develop reports and performance measures in support of Department and Division fiscal goals.
Monitor and report program budgets and ensure cost recovery goals are being met for all programs, sports and activities.
Create, implement, and manage a variety of recreation programs for both youth and adult populations.
Develop program team rosters, game schedules, and coordinate field and facility schedules for events and competitions.
Ensure marketing materials, website, and social media sites are updated with accurate information.
Negotiate contracts with outside vendors, instructors and other external groups.
Track inventory and order supplies and equipment for programs.
Facility and Risk Management
Collaborate with Parks staff and ensure all preventative field maintenance and game day preps occurs on a regular basis.
Develop and implement risk management procedures for all sports and programs.
Develop and implement staff trainings and coordinate needed safety trainings such as CPR, First Aid and AED Trainings.
Track staff certification records to ensure patron safety including CPR, First Aid, AED Training, and concussion certifications.
Monitor field conditions and collaborate with Parks Division to ensure fields/parks are ready for program usage.
Customer Service & Engagement
Communicate efficiently and effectively to all program stakeholders through face-to-face, phone and email interactions.
Foster and develop principled relationships with community partners and organizations to grow and market current and future programs.
Provide quality customer service through the development of principled relationships with participants, community members and various partnering organizations.
Technology & Assessment
Administer surveys and conduct focus groups to gauge participant satisfactions level, gain constructive feedback and foster ideas for new programs and special events.
Effectively utilize programming and scheduling software such as RecTrac, Team Sideline, When2Work, Connect2Concepts, Microsoft office/teams and website.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
Frequent interruptions and heavy public contact;
Required to work weekdays, nights, weekends, evenings and some holidays;
Work is performed in an office environment, on sports fields and within recreation facilities.
Strength and stamina enough to walk, stand, stretch, bend, lift or carry up to 50 lbs;
Manual dexterity enough to complete daily work such as operate computer keyboards, drive and operate motor vehicles, and operate other office equipment and complete paperwork;
May be required to assist individuals loading and unloading from vans
Experience, Knowledge, Skills:
Bachelor's degree required in Recreation, or a related field required
1-3 years of recreation program development required
Valid driver's license and good driving record required
Current certification in Community CPR, First Aid and AED or within 3 months of hire required
Spanish/English bilingual skills preferred
1-3 years of experience coaching, or officiating sports preferred
