This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and coordinating programs, activities and special events for community members of all ages and abilities. Recruits, directs and trains seasonal and part-time program staff and is responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of this program. Also directly supervises/oversees the work of program contractors and volunteers throughout the year. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Township’s policies and applicable laws, under the direction of the Director of Parks & Recreation. Supervisory responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities (includes but is not limited to the following):
Plans, develops, promotes, markets, implements and evaluates a broad range of inclusive recreational programs and special events for the community including working with subcontractors to provide expanded services when needed. Provides comprehensive recreational opportunities for all Township residents; assesses and evaluates needs through the use of surveys, group meetings and interactions with program participants; determines viability and demand for programs through research and networking; plans and organizes programs.
Recruits, directs, trains and evaluates seasonal and part-time staff and volunteers. Schedules and manages front desk coverage when needed and proofing daily close-outs as well as providing feedback to staff and Director on any front desk personnel or other issues.
Assists the Director in the preparation of the annual budget. Prepares cost analysis for the proposed or current programs or activities as assigned. Ensures proper control of expenditures and efficient use of materials, equipment and labor; recommends materials and supplies for purchase, proposals for services; monitors contracts; assesses current projects, programs and activities for cost efficiency and effectiveness.
Participates in continuing education through appropriate professional organizations and keeps current on developments and trends in the fields of recreation and leisure activities.
Responds to inquiries and complaints from the public; follows up with appropriate course of action; meets with representatives of the public, Township and agencies to discuss problems or questions regarding programs, projects or activities.
Monitors program implementation and delivery to ensure objectives and goals of program are met; resolves problems or conflicts with staff or participants, scheduling, facilities, participants; follows up on reports of accidents or incidents; evaluates program success through use of evaluation forms and informal feedback; maintains program records. Highly organized and consistently detail oriented.
Develops and maintains appropriate reports, registrations and overall program and office data as required including up-to-date vendor and sponsor contact information. Performs office support functions and all front desk duties as needed including processing program registrations, facility rentals, ticket sales, class lists and payment within a computerized system.
Prepares marketing materials for distribution via approved media outlets.
Responsible for securing sponsorships and donations for recreational programs. Creates and maintains a favorable public image for the Township with existing and new businesses through effective communication and marking activities related to Parks and Recreation programs and activities.

Educational & Experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation or a related field from a four (4) year college or university along with a minimum of two (2) years of directly related experience. Certified Park & Recreation Professional designation preferred or ability to obtain certification within a year of hire at employee's expense. Alternative qualifications that may be considered are an Associate Degree in a related field with six (6) years of directly related experience. Prior experience directing/supervising the work of others is strongly preferred.
Essential Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds and may infrequently lift and/or move over fifty (50) pounds. Specific vision abilities required of this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and peripheral vision. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions including heat, humidity, rain, cold, etc. This position is partially office based but does require incumbent to attend/participate in various events that are held outdoors in various weather conditions. This can include but is not limited to climbing ladders and setting up tables and chairs. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Other Skills and Qualifications:
Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills; basic mathematic and cash management skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and Excel required; experience with Active Net strongly preferred.
Possess a valid driver’s license and reliable source of transportation.
Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as needed.
Requires current Criminal Background, Child Abuse clearance and FBI Background Clearances.
Requires a post-offer, pre-employment drug screen.
