Reporting to the Director, Sport and Youth Programs, the Assistant Director’s primary focus is the administration and implementation of youth programming during the year. A large focus of our Youth Programs will be on successfully planning and executing our annual Camp Cardinal, a 9-week youth summer day camp for over 900 participants held on Stanford’s campus. The position will assist in the management operations of an inclusive tiered competitive Club Sports program. As Assistant Director of Sport and Youth Programs, you are somebody who loves working with kids, in sports, is a great teacher, reliable, a champion of student leadership, and balances fun and creativity with day-to-day executional skills. Being a great teammate, you’ll work closely with units and work teams within DAPER.
In this role you will:
- Develop, implement, and evaluate youth recreation and wellness programs that meet the needs of the Stanford community; solve problems and make decisions that impact the direction of the program.
- Assist with all scheduling functions of clubs, managing participant registration, team travel, risk management and financial compliance, and any other required administrative oversight.
- Recruit, select, train, supervise and evaluate up to 30 part-time staff including administrative program assistants, supervisors, and support staff.
- Assist with training and accountability for team captains, club officers and participants for improved program experience.
- Oversee the operating budget for Youth Programs; support the development and meeting of department revenue targets.
To be successful in this position, you will bring:
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.
- Demonstrated experience in the execution of youth programming and/or sport related special event programming.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Execution of youth and/or related programming and knowledge of requirements to work with and maintain the safety of minors.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, written and oral communication skills, and appetite for service excellence and a collaborative style.
- Excellent problem solving and analytical skills; superb attention to detail and ability to prioritize own work, multi-task, take initiative, ownership of projects, direct the work of others, and complete tasks under deadline.
Certifications and Licenses
- CPR/First Aid/AED Certification of the ability to get within six months of hire
