About This Opportunity The principal function of an employee in this class is to oversee recreation activities and perform specialized programming in support of the Specials Event Division in the Parks & Recreation Department. Responsibilities may include supervising full and part-time, seasonal and volunteer staff; coordinating program resources and staffing; monitoring program budgets, including grants; conducting needs analysis to identify programming opportunities; developing program marketing materials; resolving complex customer service issues; preparing reports; and monitoring the utilization of program resources. Incumbents are responsible for hiring, discipline and termination procedures for full, part-time and seasonal staff.
Successful Candidates Will Have:
Minimum, 2 year’s-experience designing and managing mid-to-large scale events
Minimum, 2 year supervising staff and guiding a professional team
Experience developing and managing budgets
Experience developing event procedures and policies
Experience processing permits and working with public safety standards
Strong organizational skills including attention to detail and ability to multi-task
Time management skills and ability to prioritize a large volume of tasks
Self-motivation, enthusiasm, and willingness to learn
Strong interpersonal skills including experience building and maintaining relationships with a diverse network of individuals and organizations
Great customer services skills
Excellent written skills including experience writing marketing or public relations text

In This Role You Will:
Supervise staff to include: prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff is trained; ensuring that employees follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy and safe working environment; and, making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations. May provide supervision to temporary, seasonal and volunteer staff.
Oversee the scheduling and delivery of recreation activities, programs, specialty events and/or facility use; performs specialized programming activities in support of assigned program or area.
Receive customer inquiries and requests; addresses and resolves complex customer service issues; provides responses and promotes program offerings.
Monitor, coordinate and provide for the use, safety and maintenance of facility, equipment and program resources; maintain schedules, registrations and reservations; monitor collection of facility and program fees.
Review, develop, update, communicate and monitor adherence to policies, procedures and program rules; monitors and ensures adherence with applicable laws, codes and regulations.
Monitor and evaluate program offerings and community needs; identify potential enhancements and programming opportunities; research and prepare recommendations for new programs and equipment
Develop or procure program marketing materials and promotes assigned programs within the general and business community; identify target audiences and directs efforts to target market

Soliciting event sponsors;
Promoting partnerships with businesses and community members;
Developing and posting website content and updating social media sites;
Planning and coordinating special event logistics;

Acceptable Experience and Training
Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Management, Education or Public Administration or a closely related field and 3 years of recreation and/or programming experience in assigned area of responsibility including 2 years of supervisory experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
Valid driver’s license and safe driving record;
First Aid Certification;
Valid Food Handlers Card, based on area of assignment.
