JOB DESCRIPTION:

Responsibilities include media relations, social/digital media, sports information, and public relations. Develops relationships with media and creates media opportunities. Involved and leads in strategic communication planning and implementation including crisis communication and issues management. Leads social media strategy and implementation. This position is a full-time, twelve-month, exempt professional staff member within the Department of Athletics and reports to the Deputy Athletics Director for External Events. Job Functions and Responsibilities: Publicizes, promotes, and effectively tells the story of Emory Athletics through the website and social media channels. Manages website pages for assigned sports. Writes and edits various communication materials, press releases, game notes, game stories, coach/player bios, etc. Collaborates with the external staff to strategize and execute a plan for social media coverage of overall department. Leads social media efforts and execution. Collaborates with campus communicators on crisis communication and issues management within Athletics. Assists in content creation. Nominates and promotes student-athletes and coaches for conference, regional, and national awards. Works with media outlets, on and off campus, to promote Emory Athletics and Eagle student-athletes. Explores innovative and creative ways to tell the Emory Athletics story. Hires, educates, develops, and manages student-workers and event staff. Leads and oversees Assistant Director of Communications and Athletic Communications Graduate Assistant. Serves on external team and Athletics and Recreation Leadership team. Works within external team to develop and execute social media campaigns, follow branding and voice guidelines, etc. Develops a system of accountability for transactions within annual budget allocations. Performs duties in support of NCAA post-season events. Abides by all NCAA, conference, and institutional eligibility regulations and NCAA Principles of Ethical Conduct. Performs related responsibilities as required. ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS:

The position requires some travel and working evenings, weekends and select holidays in addition to daily office hours. This position is responsible for the integrity of Emory's intercollegiate athletics program and for the reputation of Emory University. This position is responsible for ensuring that his/her involvement with Athletic Department activities maintains the integrity of the University's reputation and does not negatively impact the relationship between the University and its faculty, staff, students and alumni. Additionally, this position must comply with university policies and procedures, NCAA and conference rules and regulations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in journalism, public relations, creative writing, English, sports administration management, education, business administration or a related field, and four years of related experience in intercollegiate athletics, OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• A master's degree is preferred.
• Three years' experience in intercollegiate athletics communications and social/digital media in NCAA athletics department and/or professional sports organization.
• Knowledge of journalistic principles, practices and techniques of disseminating information to the public through the media and other communication platforms.
• Knowledge of grammar, composition and AP style.
• Knowledge and understanding of intercollegiate athletics with experience at NCAA level.
• Proficiency in Stat Crew and Genius stats.
• Knowledge and experience of web editing, design and maintenance through Presto Sports.
• Advanced knowledge and understanding of various social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube.
• Knowledge of desktop applications including Microsoft Office.
• Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite.
• Ability to multitask, prioritize assignments, events, request and situations while meeting deadlines.
• Ability to thrive in an environment that at times requires independence and at times requires working as part of a team, and the ability to discern between the two.
• Ability to weigh institutional priorities in relationship to budgetary constraints, make sound decisions, and escalate where appropriate.
• Strong strategic thinker and communicator who understands and prioritizes competing objectives among competing audiences.
