The Parks and Recreation Department is looking for a highly motivated and dynamic individual to join their team as a Recreation Coordinator implementing a variety of Recreation Programs.  Although the current full-time vacancy will be primarily assigned to plan and execute citywide special events, sponsorship program and Military Banner program, this recruitment will be utilitzed to establish an eligibility list to fill future vacancies in this classification.

This position will, under general supervision, plan, organize, and promote specific recreation, youth, senior, and community services programs and events; supervise and evaluate the work of part-time staff, volunteens and contract personnel; prepare related written materials and information; and perform related duties as required. This position will work a 9/80 schedule.

 

Please note this position is eligible for a 3% Cost of Living Adjustment effective December 31, 2022 and a 5% merit increase upon successful job performance at six months of service as a probationary employee.

Principles and practices of recreation and leisure services program administration; State and local health and safety regulations; basic accounting and purchasing procedures; marketing and promotional practices; research and report writing techniques; budgeting and costing procedures; contract administration procedures; basic principles of employee supervision, training, and evaluation; customer service techniques.

 

Operate modern office equipment including computer hardware and related word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, and specialized recreation software applications and multi-media equipment; plan, organize, review, and evaluate the work of full and/or part-time and contract employees; lead, motivate, and train staff in proper work procedures; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, contractors, management, facility users, vendors, and the general public; follow oral and written instructions; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; prepare clear, concise and complete records, reports, and correspondence.

 

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university in Recreation, Public Administration or closely related field and three years of increasingly responsible recreation experience including budget, programming, and administrative assignments or three years of college level course work and four years of recreation work experience. Lead or supervisory experience is highly desirable.

 

Possession of a valid Class C or Class 3 California driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
