Job Description
The Coordinator - Aquatic Events is an integral part of the Student Life Rec Sports team committed to a vision as leaders in developing lives of balance, physical activity and well-being. Under the supervision of the Assistant Director-Aquatics Personnel, Programs, and Events directly supervises 6-12 student employees and supports up to 120 additional students, assists with all aspects of day-to-day operations of the Aquatic Center which consists of five pools and two spas, open from 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, and associated events for Student Life Rec Sports and Athletics including: recruiting, hiring, training, certifying, scheduling, supervising, retaining, developing and evaluating student event technicians and support staff; assures the safe conduct of aquatic programs, reporting and resolving maintenance and housekeeping issues, and adherence to building policies and procedures; provides facility coverage; provides professional staff presence during specified times including morning, evening, and weekend hours; directs student staff activities; provides guidance and oversight to student leadership staff in relation to aquatic special event programming and other areas; performs administrative tasks including report management, inventory control and payroll; monitor facility incident and accident reports, address areas of concern; maintains appropriate records; leads special event program planning and coordination as directed; provides input and delivers facets of annual, semester, and weekly training and in-service opportunities for staff; identifies, supports and assists in the completion of facility cleaning responsibilities; oversees assigned special projects, assists with pool operations including water circulation, chemical delivery and filtration as directed; establishes, maintains and promotes good public relations; attends scheduled meetings and provides leadership; operate and maintain Colorado Timing Systems scoreboard, timing and scoring equipment; operate and maintain audio-video equipment and facility event equipment, provide a clean and organized environment for programming and competition including pool decks, dive towers, pool surfaces, and related equipment storage areas and operational spaces; maintain a working inventory of event equipment, implement a preventative maintenance program and repair and replacement schedule; complete purchasing responsibilities as assigned; coordinate with event organizers in the programming, planning, and operation of aquatic events, plan event set-ups, tear-downs and operational expectations for programmatic and competitive event activities in support of Student Life Rec Sports, the Department of Athletics, and other internal and external user groups. Establish, maintain and promote good public relations. Other duties as assigned. While a base work schedule will be established, shift times are variable and work schedule will require a combination of early mornings, evenings, and weekends as event schedules, staffing levels, and activity demands; the position may require the employee to be available to staff throughout the day as well as during off-peak hours through electronic communication; this role will require the employee to work more than 40 hours per week during peak event season or other times as needed.

Percentage of Duties
60% Event Programming and Operations: Plan, coordinate, schedule, and execute aquatic events and programs. Coordinate with internal and external users to ensure the execution of high-quality events. Provide on-site support for aquatic events including, but not limited to, facility and event oversight, operation of event equipment, timing/scoring/audio/video systems, etc. Establish, maintain and promote good public relations.
35% Equipment Maintenance and Inventory: Provide a clean and organized aquatic event environment, ensure good working order of event and facility equipment and inventory at all times. Purchase, repair, and replace event equipment as necessary. Lead and train student and support staff and provide assistance to aquatic team in an effort to meet area goals.
5% Other duties as assigned

The Targeted Hiring Range for this position is $44,000 to $48,000 ($21.15/hr - $23.08/hr).

Required Qualifications
Required: A Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience; competent deep-water swimmer with ability to obtain lifeguarding certification, American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification (required within 90 days of hire); experience with Microsoft Office Suite Applications; experience with competitive timing system equipment, audio/video systems, networking, computer systems, and printers.
Desired: Master’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience; event programming and operations experience with working technical knowledge of electronics, computers, audio/video systems, Colorado Timing equipment, Divemeets.com, eDive, Hy-Tek Meet and Team Manager Software, Synchronized Swimming software, water polo operations, etc.; experience in a recreational sports setting; experience with support of a variety of recreational and competitive aquatic activities; Certified Pool Operator certification, American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification; strong interpersonal communication skills, ability to successfully navigate a high volume of staff communications; ability to organize and maintain clean and well-kept workspaces, ability to work as part of a team.
