As a Assistant Parks and Recreation Director for the City, you will be providing direct administrative and supervisory support for the Parks and Recreation Director to ensure that the department functions effectively and efficiently in various aspects of operations and specifically develops and implements the City's recreational programming to meet citizen needs.

Essential duties and responsibilities include:

• Supervise seasonal and full time personnel; assign, train and evaluate work, oversee in-service training; complete performance evaluations; in conjunction with the Director, make recommendations regarding hiring, disciplining, and terminating the employment of full and part-time employees. Assist with the resolution of employee concerns and grievances.
• Assist with developing the department's conceptual- and long-range master plans and annual operating budget; develop and make recommendations; monitor budgetary expenditures; track and report status of contracts awarded to external vendors.
• Assist the Director in the implementation of departmental policies, procedures and responsibilities.
• Assist with the evaluation of the department's effectiveness; prepare and track budgets; prepare department reports, as requested.
• Assist with administering and preparations of grant applications, write and implement grants; prepare related grant reports.
• Respond to citizen complaints and requests for information; ensure appropriate follow-up action is taken.
• Actively participate in community organizations to foster a positive City image.
• Prepare routine and special reports and presentations regarding Parks and Recreation and Parks Maintenance Departments operations and development plans, as requested by department, City Council, or other boards, commissions or citizens groups.
• Provide departmental direction and supervision in the absence of the Parks and Recreation Director.
• Assist with the departments' administration and preparation of the CIP, including the design process, budget development, and contract preparation and bidding procedure.
• Assist with the planning and development of new parks, recreation facilities, buildings and related activities with knowledge of construction planning, design and administration
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of programs, business operations, special events, park facilities, maintenance, park planning, and park rangers.
• Supervises and provides direction and advice to management of the following divisions: Park and Recreation Facilities, Business Operations, Recreation Programs,, Park Rangers, and Park Planners. .
• Plan the quality, quantity, and timing of materials and supplies.
• Supervise department sections in the absence of assigned supervisor.
• Other duties as assigned.

If you are the right person for this opportunity, you will have previous experience establishing and maintaining professionally effective relationships with external public, vendors, internal management and non-management employees, and City and other government officials.

Qualifications and Skill Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Parks and Recreation Administration, Leisure Services, Landscape Architecture or related field
• 5+ years' progressively responsible experience in parks and recreation; 3+ years' supervisory experience.
• Valid Class C Texas driver's license, or alternative means of transportation.
• Master's degree preferred
• Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) or Certified Parks and Recreation Executive (CPRE) desired.
• First Aid, CPR and AED Certifications preferred.
