The City of Gainesville’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs is seeking an innovative, forward thinking, fun and flexible individual with the right combination of education and experience to fill a Recreation Aide II position. Tasks to be performed may include but not limited to:

• Oversee, plan and assist in the coordination and implementation of recreational activities primarily for after-school, summer camp and out-of-school time (OST) as well as other recreational activities such as fitness & wellness, cultural arts and other related programming.
• Supervise, assign, review and participate as a manager on duty in the work of assigned staff responsible for administering the operations of a recreation facility or activities of a recreation program.
• Participate in the development of goals and objectives as well as activity lesson plans; make recommendations for changes and improvements to existing recreation programs as well as develop new recreation programs; maintain registration, participation, inventory and expenditure records for recreation programs.
• Conduct routine maintenance and custodial tasks of assigned recreation facility; complete, process and maintain appropriate work orders, reports and forms; assist in the oversight of recreation facility and program safety as well as risk management.

To be considered for this position you must have:

• Graduated from High School or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
• Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in recreational programming, instruction, management, or related activities; or an equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Required Certifications or Licenses:

• Valid Florida Driver’s License is required within thirty (30) days of appointment.
• American Red Cross certification (or equivalent) in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and First Aid is required within 6 months of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• A Bachelor’s Degree or higher with major course work in recreation management or a related field; or an Associate’s Degree or higher in a non-related field and at least one (1) year of paid work experience in the coordination of recreation programs.
• At least two (2) years of qualifying paid work experience developing, implementing and coordinating after-school, summer camp or out-of-school time (OST) programming.
• National Recreation and Parks Association certification as a Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP).
