Founded in 1852 and located 80 miles northeast of San Francisco, Placer County, California (pop. 405,000, 1,506 sq. mi.), is a rapidly growing, prosperous, and innovative community that stretches from Sacramento (state capital), east across the Sierra Nevada mountains and through the Tahoe National Forest to the Nevada state line. Since 2010, Placer County saw a 16.3% population increase, growing almost three times faster than California did as a whole in the same time period.  The FY 2021/2022 operating budget is $1.024 billion with a current staff of approximately 2,707 funded positions.
