The Columbia Parks and Recreation Department is hiring a Parks and Recreation Manager to oversee the Park Services Division of the Department. This position will work under the managerial direction of the Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the supervision of 47 full-time staff members and 70 to 80 part-time staff members in the Park Services Division. This includes staff in the areas of natural resource management, golf and sports turf, planning, construction and park maintenance. The position is also responsible for the management and maintenance of the park system including 3,459 acres of park and green space, 75 parks, 62 miles of trails and 12 indoor recreation facilities. The individual assists with the department’s long-range plans for park and trail development and capital improvements. The position is heavily involved in the planning and coordination of the annual budget for the department.
A successful applicant must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation Administration or closely related field and a Master’s degree is strongly preferred.
The department prefers a candidate with a Certified Parks and Recreation Professional certification and will require certification as an Aquatic Facility Operator and Certified Playground Safety Inspector within one year of hire.
A minimum of five years of advanced professional experience in parks management, natural resource management, park planning or closely related field is preferred. A successful candidate will have previous supervisory experience and must maintain a valid driver’s license.
