Under general supervision, performs routine manual labor tasks in support of the activities and operations of the Parks Department.
Routine schedule is 40 hours per week, 6:30am-2:30pm Monday through Friday. Overtime opportunities may be available.
The starting pay rate will increase based on work experience.
Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Uses manual equipment such as shovels, hoes, rakes and hand saws to perform general grounds maintenance to include digging, raking, leveling, planting, fertilizing, spraying pesticides, and pruning flowers, trees, and shrubs.
Drives pick-up trucks, tractors, and other motor vehicles with heavy equipment attached; operates professional type mowers, spray equipment, push mowers, weed-eaters, edgers, chain saws, and other equipment.
Cleans and maintains equipment.
May be asked to perform additional job duties that are directly, indirectly or completely unrelated to normal job functions in the course of presenting certain Town special events.
Performs related duties as required or assigned.
Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines High school diploma or GED equivalent; AND one (1) year of landscape maintenance experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Ability to establish and maintain harmonious relations with fellow employees, Town officials, and outside contracts. Safe driving record. Clear criminal background check and clear pre-employment drug screen.
Work safety practices, policies, and procedures.
Materials and tools used to perform landscape maintenance.
Operating various hand and power tools in accordance with safety practices and procedures.
Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS A valid Texas Driver's License is required.
ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS Routine schedule is 40 hours per week, 6:30am-2:30pm Monday through Friday. Schedule may be modified if department needs arise. May be required to work overtime if needed. May be required to work overtime nights and weekends as the need arises.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions and requires moderate physical exertion and exposure to dangerous tools and equipment and hazardous chemicals and pesticides.
