Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics is seeking applicants for an Assistant Supervisor of Grounds for our athletic field maintenance staff. This position assists in the planning, supervision, and maintenance of all outdoor athletic facilities. In addition, the position will also be responsible for assisting with hiring, training, evaluation and day-to-day functions of the athletic field maintenance staff.
Job responsibilities include:
Plan and supervise maintenance of facilities before, during and after the technical service staff workday in collaboration with Supervisor of Grounds
Collaborate with Associate Athletic Director for Facilities Management and Operations and Supervisor of Grounds on long term goals and strategies for athletic facilities and playing surfaces
Supervise the operation, repair, and maintenance of all mechanical and motorized equipment
Determine and assist with the supervision of the daily facility needs of seeding, sodding, fertilizing, watering, mowing and maintenance of facilities
Assist with the scheduling of intercollegiate athletic and campus recreational facilities
Provide guidance and support to staff
Supervise special event set-up and clean-up of athletic venues including Beaver Stadium before, during and after events
Maintain records and organization of expenses, agronomic programs, inventory and safety protocols pursuant to the operation and University policy
Meet with coaches, administrators and athletic support staff to coordinate facility needs
Typically requires an Associate's degree or higher plus three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Turf management and work-related experience at a Division I Institution preferred. Pennsylvania Pesticide Applicators License or ability to obtain within three months of employment, prior supervision experience and working with collective bargaining agreements is preferred. Proficient and comprehensive knowledge of Turfgrass Management with a focus on Sports Turf and Facility Management also preferred.
This position requires the following clearances: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required.
