General Position Overview:

Under general supervision, performs administrative work in assisting in the planning and coordination of the City’s local events and activities. Reports to the Tourism Program Manager.
Work includes assisting in organizing, planning, directing, and coordinating tourism operations to ensure compliance with all applicable City policy and procedures. As the Tourism Program Coordinator, you will assist in the development of promotional materials and public relations activities to include writing newspaper articles and notices, writing radio announcements, speaking at radio shows or local educational program meetings, and attending seminars, conferences, or banquets.
Other duties might also include assisting the Firehouse Conference Center team in showing the facility to perspective patrons, marketing facility rentals, coordinating bookings and schedules, contract administration, as well as coordinating catering and entertainment needs. In this position you will occasionally supervise interns or volunteer staff with completing tasks or activities. Developing a relationship with key local groups to include the Chamber of Commerce, Newberry Opera House, the Downtown Merchants Association, Newberry County PRT, and others will be vital in this role.
Must be out-going, energetic, creative, and demonstrate a high level of customer service and detail orientation.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule which will include days, with occasional evenings and weekends.
Bachelor’s degree in parks and recreation management, business, hospitality management, or related field supplemented by (9) nine to (12) twelve months of experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
All applicants must possess a valid South Carolina driver’s license.
