Responsible for recreational programming in the City of Hobbs Recreation Department, primarily within the Recreation Division and the CORE (Center of Recreational Excellence).
Responsibilities include management, coordination, supervision of citywide special events and special events held at the CORE. Also programs special interest classes both City-wide and at the CORE . Is directly responsible for management, coordination and supervision of the Summer Recess program. Plans, organizes and implements recreational events, activities, and programs to be held throughout the community and at various City facilities. Events and programs include a wide ranging assortment of holiday related events, movies, dances, arts and crafts. Interviews, selects and supervises part-time staff. Plans and organizes workloads and staff assignments. Resolves any employee issues. Prepares a variety of schedules, letters, posters, news releases and flyers for publication regarding recreation programs and upcoming events. Meets with individuals or groups to stimulate interest and support for recreation activities. Provides information regarding recreational programs and facilities to the general public. Works with schools, vendors, civic and cultural groups, recreational organizations and the news media, soliciting feedback and resolving any complaints. Assures adequate staffing and volunteer support to ensure smooth operations at special events. Prepares and maintains budget for recreational programs. Orders supplies and maintains purchase records. Reviews and maintains incident/accident reports. Assists with additional events, activities and programs throughout the entire Recreation Department as assigned.
NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES May serve on various employee committees, as required and assigned.
Education and Experience: Graduated from an accredited four (4) year college or university with a degree in Recreation, Recreation Administration or a closely related field.
Two (2) years of experience programming and supervising special events, activities and programs in a municipal recreation setting or;
Two (2) years of supervisory experience in a municipal recreation setting;
Or, an equivalent combination of education, work experience and supervisory experience.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Skills in planning, supervision, organization, scheduling, human relations and administration.
Knowledge of objectives and methods involving municipal recreation in organizing, conducting, and supervising a program of recreational activities.
Knowledge of various phases of recreation work such as sports and games, social or specialized cultural activities.
Demonstrated skill in long range planning, public presentations, coordination and negotiations.
Ability to market and promote events and programs.
Ability to develop, administer, teach and interpret recreational programs to the public and determine the recreation needs of the community through involvement.
Ability to direct and train subordinates and volunteers.
Ability to counsel and interact with a diverse general public.
Ability to utilize a personal computer with standard Microsoft software.
Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule.
Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays at special events.
Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City department personnel, schools, civic groups, cultural groups, vendors and general public.
LICENSING AND CERTIFICATIONS
Valid state issued drivers license.
