As Parks and Recreation Director this person is responsible for the management of the Kvimarvik Swimming Pool, manages a four month maintenance contract for some of the Bristol Bay Borough Parks and Grounds during the summer months, manages summer recreation programs for the kids and any and all other desired programming and community events. In managing the pool, responsibilities include keeping the pool water in good condition; maintenance of the building and equipment; life guarding duties; maintaining cleanliness throughout the building; pool scheduling; all product ordering; and maintaining compliance with all codes and ordinances to ensure a safe and healthy environment. The Parks and Recreation Director will act as the direct supervisor for the Assistant Director and small team of lifeguards and oversee the seasonal contract with the Borough Grounds Maintenance. The Parks and Recreation Director is expected to be congenial with the public, display initiative, serve as a role model for patrons in speech, conduct and appearance, be fair and equitable in treating patrons, enforce rules impartially and maintain a positive attitude about his/her position. Must comply with the borough credit card policies when using a borough credit card for purchases. Responsible for the department budget and staying within the budget parameters. Responsible to ensure time cards are turned in on time and reviewed for accuracy, and any and all other matters regarding leading a small parks and recreation department.
Candidate must be at least 18 years of age. Only a high school diploma or equivalent is required. 4 year, Higher education degree is preferred. Alaska Drivers licensed must be obtained soon after employment. At minimum, a current lifeguard certification must be obtained prior to starting employment. Certifications such as Certified Pool Operator/Aquatics Facility Operator and Lifeguard Instructor should be obtained either before or soon after starting the position. Water Safety Instructor is preferred, but not required. Final candidate must pass a pre-employment background test and pre-employment drug test.
