PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Identifies present and future needs, goals and objectives for programs and special events.
Develops and facilitates various events, including currently established Riverside Campout and Movie Night, Christmas Parade, Fourth of July Celebrations, etc.
Responsible for overseeing the creation, management, and operation of various programs and events.
Schedules and plans programs and activities using any and all available resources.
Coordinates public relations functions with the Public Information Officer as directed.
Manages and assists in the operation and programming of aquatic related facilities and events to include, but not limited to, the splashpads and river recreation/education.
Maintains inventory and purchases supplies and equipment needed for events.
Collaborates with community partners, vendors, and volunteers for events and programs.
Contacts local and regional businesses and organizations for program support, participations, and sponsorships.
Prepares marketing materials such as course descriptions, flyers, program brochures, newsletters, and announcements.
Creates content for social media pages for the Parks and Recreation Department.
Uses social media and other forums to maximize community outreach and participation.
Must be detail-oriented with ability to follow through on assigned tasks and deadlines.
Prepares clear and concise reports, including but not limited to customer satisfaction surveys, event recaps, etc.
Assists the Recreation Services Manager with preparation of annual division budget, estimates and monitors revenues and expenses, and submits recommendations.
Assists in the hiring, training, supervision, scheduling, and evaluation of subordinate personnel.
Under direction, investigates, recommends, and responds to citizens’ complaints and concerns.
Provides excellent internal and external customer service. Communicates professionally, effectively, and works cooperatively with all staff, other agencies, and the general public.
Embraces and upholds the goals and objectives of the Parks and Recreation Department.
Regular attendance at work and arrives on time. Subject to after hours, call-out work, weekend and holiday work.
Observes and enforces all City and department policies and procedures.
Performs all other job-related duties as assigned or as becomes apparent.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Ability to sit, stand, and transport self from building to building. Ability to drive a vehicle to and from various facilities and events. Employee will be exposed to seasonal temperatures and will walk, stand, kneel, squat, crawl, and bend while performing job duties. Must be able to walk on loose, uneven and sloped ground. Employee will be exposed to insects as well as chemical, mechanical, water and dust hazards. Ability to routinely lift material weighing up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and carry up to 60 pounds. Ability to see and handle small objects and tools.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:
General knowledge of the philosophy and objectives of public recreation; of principles of supervision, organization and administration; and of current literature, trends and developments in the field of parks and recreation development.
Knowledge of the standard resources, practices, materials and facilities utilized in recreation programs and activities.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
Ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize work while meeting multiple deadlines.
Ability to exercise sound judgement in making critical decisions.
Ability to read and understand technical materials, reports, and journals as well as City policies, procedures, and budget documents.
Ability to operate or learn various computer software programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Graphics Software, Community Pass).
Minimum Education, Experience and Certification:
Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Recreation Administration, Kinesiology, Sports Management, or related field preferred. One to three (1-3) years’ experience in developing and implementing recreation and/or athletic programs preferred. Will consider equivalent combination of experience and education, which provides the knowledge, abilities and skills required for the position.
Possess or be able to obtain First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications within six months of hire and maintain certifications throughout employment in this position.
Texas driver’s license with driving record that meets City guidelines.
