The City of Gainesville’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs is now looking for a creative, fun and flexible person with the right experience to fill a Recreation Leader position. Spend your days planning and coordinating a wide variety of recreational programs and events as well as providing oversight to the City’s recreational facilities.
Tasks to be performed may include but not limited to: • Oversee, plan and assist in the coordination and implementation of recreational activities such as after-school, summer camp, out-of-school time, fitness & wellness, cultural arts and other related activities. • Supervise, assign, review and participate in the work of direct report and subordinate staff responsible for administering the operations of an assigned community center or activities of an assigned recreation program. • Participate in the development of goals and objectives as well as policies and procedures; make recommendations for changes and improvements to existing standards, policies, and procedures; participate in the implementation of approved policies and procedures; monitor work activities to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures. • Conduct on-site inspections of assigned community centers or recreation programs; ensure proper maintenance and safety requirements are adhered to; schedule maintenance and secure facilities; respond to inquiries from staff. • Prepare special reports related to recreational programs and activities; requisitions and maintains an inventory of equipment, supplies and materials.

To be considered for this position you must have: • Graduated from High School or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma and • Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in recreational programming, instruction, management, or related activities; or an equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. • Valid Florida Driver's license is required within thirty (30) days of appointment • Must attach resume to application for further consideration
Required Certifications • American Red Cross certification (or equivalent) in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and First Aid is required within 6 months of appointment. • National Recreation and Parks Association certification as a Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) is required within eighteen (18) months of appointment.
