Program Specifics:

Texas Tech University is accepting applications for the Assistant Director – Aquatics & Risk Management. This position will report to & work collaboratively with the Associate Director – Facilities & Project Management.  In conjunction with the Aquatics Coordinator, this individual will develop, oversee, and administer a comprehensive aquatic program with certification services that meet the demands of the university community, while maintaining the day-to-day operations of the indoor Aquatic Center & outdoor Leisure Pool.

The successful individual will also promote our department’s mission to include personnel and fiscal management, inventory control, program development/promotion, as well as nurture & and cultivate relationships within the campus and non-campus communities.  The Assistant Director will plan, schedule and coordinate all program activities while participating in the enhancement & implementation of program policies/procedures in the areas of Aquatics and Risk Management.  Regular assessments of programs to measure effectiveness, and implement new initiatives based on industry standards will be a key component to this position.  Budget development & allocation will be included in this individual’s responsibilities as well.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Supervise, evaluate, and mentor one full-time Aquatic Coordinator.
• Hire, supervise, schedule, and evaluate 10 Student Supervisors, 4 Lead Staff, and 1 Student Program Manager.
• Support the hiring, supervision, training, scheduling and evaluation of a student employee staff of 50 lifeguards; 20 Water Safety Instructors, & 10 Lifeguard Instructors.
• Manage the comprehensive cleaning, operation and maintenance of two large Aquatic Facilities.
• Serve as the primary pool operator for outdoor bodies of water including spa, 8-lane lap pool, drop slide, three tier wet deck, splash pad, and a 645’ Lazy River. 
• Serve as the primary pool operator for indoor 50 meter pool.
• Inventory and manage all pool supplies including chemicals to support indoor & outdoor facilities.
• Serve as committee chair for the Texas Tech University Recreation Risk Management Committee.
• Coordinate annual calendar of drills and/or “red manikin” training scenarios with various programs and student staff
• Responsible for the tracking of inventory and as needed purchase of all risk management supplies and equipment
• Serve as point of contact for all injury reports which occurred in URec programs and facilities.
• Develop and administer the aquatics budget of approximately $450,000/annually including maintenance, payroll, and revenue-generating income.
• Provide guidance and oversight of all American Red Cross related programs including certification courses, swim instruction, and land-based CPR/AED/First Aid Courses.  Teach ARC Instructor-level courses as needed.
• Co-coordinate Summer Sports Camp swimming lessons for approximately 500 children
