Description: Potomac State College (WVU Keyser), part of the West Virginia University system of campuses, located in Keyser, WV is seeking applications for a Director of Athletics. This position is responsible for providing leadership, vision, and direction for athletics to ensure program effectiveness, continuous improvement, and positive experience for student-athletes on and off the field. The Director of Athletics maintains the integrity of the program, promoting and upholding the core values of Potomac State College. The Director of Athletics will strengthen and build the athletic program, developing relationships with the NJCAA, our regional partners and external constituents. The Director of Athletics reports to the Dean of Student Experience.
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will: - Provide strategic and visionary leadership to all athletic department personnel (coaches, trainers, and staff)
- Create and oversee an organizational structure for the department that ensures administrative and operational effectiveness, fiscal responsibility, and compliance
- Develop a strategic plan for the athletic department that supports and aligns with the mission and vision of the College
- Foster an environment that supports diversity, equity, and inclusion as core principles
- Ensure compliance with all NJCAA, Title IX, and institutional policies, as well as other external rules and regulations
- Be responsible for all budgetary matters related to athletics which includes but is not limited to departmental budgets, reconciling payments to referees and umpires and expenditures within the athletic teams.
- Collaborate with athletics and academic staff to promote academic success, retention, and graduation for all student athletes
- Oversee operations of all athletic facilities
- Directly supervise head coaches, trainers, and staff, including shared responsibility for hiring decisions, disciplinary or firing decisions, and full responsibility for training, mentoring, and evaluating coaches and athletics staff in accordance with College policies and expectations.
- Supervise student workers who serve as gym monitors, weight-room attendants
- Sustain a culture of excellence and continuous improvement throughout all aspects of the athletic department with a high-level of integrity and a strong focus on living our core values. (Service, Curiosity, Respect, Accountability and Appreciation)

- Collaborate with Student Experience personnel to coordinate athletic facility use by recreational athletics groups
- Collaborate with other college personnel and the local community to coordinate athletic facility usage.
- Assist coaches who request assistance in scheduling of games, equipment purchases, transportation needs, etc.
- Prepare contracts for all games and officials
- Responsible for assigning coverage for or covering game day management for all home athletic events.
- Attend away play-off games to represent college if available.
- Collaborate with Enrollment Services personnel on the recruitment of student athletes
- Collaborate with Residence Life and Housing personnel on housing student athletes
- Collaborate with Marketing personnel on publicity, preparation of press releases, reporting of athletic events, results, game day programs and web page updates.
- Collaborate with Alumni personnel to develop events including the Athletic Hall of Fame.
- Collaborate with local leaders to enhance community relations between the College and local community.
- Represent the Athletic Department at meetings dealing with athletics, Conference meetings, Alumni meetings, Student Experience, and others.
Qualifications - Master’s Degree in athletic administration, education administration, or a related field.
- A minimum of five (5) years of experience in intercollegiate athletics administration experience, including personnel management, compliance, and operations.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Outstanding analytical and financial budgeting skills
- Successful experience in fundraising and a commitment to the development of donor relationships
- Knowledge of NCAA, NJCAA, Title IX policies, rules and regulations
- High Level of Emotional Intelligence
Requirements - Valid Driver's License
- First Aid/CPR (Preferred)
- Ability to move and coach on the field
- Ability to lift 20 pounds
