The Recreation Superintendent position reports directly to the Parks and Recreation Director. The ideal candidate will be an experienced, full-service team-oriented leader embodying a deep passion for recreation, recreation facilities, a commitment to excellence, and has a desire to work hard for a high-touch community at a rewarding agency – both of which are growing quickly. The incumbent will be successful by also possessing high skill levels of creativity, problem solving, customer service, fiscal responsibility, and leadership. In addition, the Recreation Superintendent will continue to develop a well-polished, effective recreation team integrating and promoting the vision of the El Dorado Hills Community Services District.
The successful Recreation Superintendent candidate will have strong knowledge of principles and practices applying recreation services, including but not limited to the areas of Youth & Teens, Active Seniors, Aquatics, Special Events and other programs that support the District’s Master Plan and the Board of Directors’ goals. There is much to be excited about in taking on this role, as one will be an integral part of the newly combined Departments of Parks & Recreation and work directly under the soon-to-be hired Director of Parks & Recreation. The District is looking for a leader that will embrace the fusion of these two Departments and ultimately launch the District to an innovative, high level of operation that supports the complex needs that are unique to El Dorado Hills Community Services District.

This includes policy development and implementation, budget and program management. The Recreation Superintendent has primary responsibility for planning, promoting, and directing a wide range of recreation programs and services that foster human development, health and wellness, cultural unity, and community building. The position also provides complex administrative support to the Director of Parks and Recreation and assists in planning and executing the District's mission and objectives. Provides recommendations in the implementation of Recreation programs; serves as a technical resource for District management and staff. SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED Receives general direction from the Director of Parks and Recreation. Exercises direct supervision over supervisory, technical, maintenance, and program staff. CLASS CHARACTERISTICS The Recreation Superintendent is responsible for managing and overseeing all Recreation functions and operations within the District. The classification is distinguished from the next higher classification of Director of Parks and Recreation in that the latter has overall senior management responsibility for the District’s Parks Recreation programs. This classification is distinguished from the lower level classification of Recreation Supervisor in that the latter is a first line supervisor over Recreation staff. |
