Job Title: Recreation Programmer Location: Jackson, Wyoming Reports to: Recreation Program Manager Salary: Full-time Exempt Benefits include: 100% premium paid for employee and family health, dental and eye, 11% employer to 3% employee paid Wyoming Retirement Program, 10 paid holidays, 3 weeks paid vacation, 2 paid personal days, and 8 hours of sick leave per month. ABOUT TETON COUNTY/JACKSON Teton County/Jackson is located in western Wyoming and is a gateway community to Grand Teton National Park, Yellowstone National Park and Bridger-Teton National Forest. Teton County is over 76,000 acres, of which 97% is federally owned. Tourism is the driving force of the local economy, and sales tax is the primary funding source for local government services. Approximately 65% of the sales tax base come from visitors. Teton County has approximately 25,000 residents, of which 8,000 of those are in the town of Jackson. Jackson is the only incorporated town within Teton County. A significant number of the residents in Teton County are second homeowners. According to the 2012 Teton County/Jackson Comprehensive plan, the common values of community character are ecosystem stewardship; growth management; and quality of life. ABOUT TETON COUNTY/JACKSON PARKS AND RECREATION Teton County/Jackson Parks and Recreation Department operates as a County agency under a Joint Powers Agreement between the town and county. Department Funding is split between the County at 55% and the Town at 45% based upon the 2010 Census on residential population distribution. The department also partners with the Teton County School district through a shared facility use agreement. The department has (11) eleven developed parks comprising 60 acres and (4) four undeveloped parks comprising 89 acres; a 40,000 square foot recreation center with a gymnasium, multi-purpose/aerobics room, 8-lane lap pool, leisure pool, splash down pool/slide tower, therapy pool, hot tub, steam room and sauna; 65 miles of paved multimodal pathways; and management of approximately 1,000 acres of BLM Snake River Recreation parcels. Through the school district agreement, the department has management and maintenance responsibilities of 11 athletic fields comprising 18 acres. In November of 2019 the voters of Teton County approved 22 million dollars in funding to expand the Recreation Center to include the addition of: 7,000 sf third gymnasium; 200 yd elevated walking/running track; 6,000 sf indoor climbing gym; 3,800 sf multi-purpose fitness studios; 3,800 sf cardio studios; 600 sf health consultation rooms, 1,000 sf drop-in daycare; 800 sf multi-purpose/birthday party room; 600 sf classroom; 800sf study lounge; 8,600 outdoor zero-depth splash pad; 1,000 sf outdoor bouldering; and 1,000 sf outdoor playground. ABOUT THE JOB Teton County/Jackson Parks and Recreation Department is seeking an enthusiastic, outgoing, and passionate individual for the position of Recreation Programmer. Under general supervision of the Recreation Program Manager, position will develop, schedule and coordinate recreation programs and events; manages event and program registration process and paperwork, supervises activity participants, volunteers, and staff, provides staff support. Oversees and manages annual budget; monitors income and expenses; evaluate program budgets; write grants to support programs; orders program supplies and equipment. This position will also select and train new staff members, contract instructors, and volunteers; prepares schedules and assigns tasks and special projects. The Recreation Programmer is responsible for direct supervision of seasonal part-time staff which can range from 1-20 people depending on the season. The position requires a bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Physical Education, or related field and a minimum of 2 years of experience in recreation programming, which includes administrative experience and supervision; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. A valid State of Wyoming driver’s license, CPR/First Aid/AED certification required, and Specific technical skills training and certifications may be required depending upon area of assignment. Certified Parks and Recreation Professional preferred. The position is full-time, exempt with the hiring range of $21.42- $22.51/ hr year DOE, inclusive of a strong benefit package.
