Responsible, under the supervision of the Parks Special Projects Administrator, for conceptual park planning, design, and project administration, including implementation, of improvements and enhancements to open spaces, trails, greenbelt corridors, rights-of-way, sports and recreation facilities, and other park developments. The position will provide responsible staff assistance for coordination of project management information to other divisions, departments, outside agencies, and the general public.

Essential Job Functions

• Coordinate the design and development of landscape construction projects within parks or on other city property, and collaborate with city management, consultants, and contractors based on site needs or requirements.
• Participate in the review of design documents for technical integrity, compliance with standards and requirements related to functional use, maintenance, safety considerations and aesthetics.
• Prepare plans and project specifications to include schematic design development through construction documents and construction management.
• Develop design concepts by producing graphic presentation drawings. Verify code requirements, coordinate permit submittals and bid packages by writing business communications and transmittals.
• Provide onsite project construction observation. Review contractor pay applications, prepare reports regarding construction activities and approve final work of contractors.
• Prepare cost estimates reflecting project budgets, create schedules, and prepare project bidding documents and contracts.
• Communicate clearly and effectively with citizens, developers, contractors, other city departments and management to discuss development requirements and impact on City parks.
• Assist with general office duties, as needed.

Minimum Education & Work Experience

Education/ Experience:     

• Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture from a college or university with an accredited Landscape Architecture program
• 3-5 years of experience in planning, designing and implementing landscape architecture projects

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Knowledge of the principles, theories, and practices of landscape architecture as they relate to project development from schematic site design through coordination of construction and warranty periods
• Knowledge of construction materials and techniques
• Knowledge of landscape irrigation systems
• Knowledge of natural and environmental characteristics of the site to include soils, topography, drainage and vegetation
• Knowledge of trees and woody ornamental plant material and their use in sustainable planting and design
• Ability to utilize software such as AutoCAD and GIS in generating drawings and mapping, Adobe Suite, including Photoshop, and Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Outlook
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing
• Ability to read, write and understand construction drawings, design documents and plans
• Ability to apply landscape architecture design principles and conservation practices to general park development and recreational facility planning
• Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with other departments, public officials, citizens and staff members
• Ability to adjust to dynamic project priorities and manage multiple projects simultaneously
