Wilderness Presidential Resort is currently seeking an Assistant Recreation Director. This employee will be responsible for coordinating a broad range of activities and operations related to recreation facility and area management, including staff development and supervision. Responsibilities may include but are not limited to, recruiting, training, and scheduling staff; assigning tasks and monitoring performance; monitoring maintenance of facilities and equipment; purchasing supplies; evaluating existing programs and developing new ones; maintaining records. Employee will receive guidance from the Recreation Director but needs to show initiative and ability to manage with minimal monitoring.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversee and provide daily operational support of facilities, programs, activities, and administrative tasks; monitoring adherence with safety and risk management policies and procedures.
Supervise assigned staff to include scheduling, authorizing time off, checking payroll, prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff are trained; ensuring employees are following policies and procedures; foster a positive, healthy and safe working environment; and making hiring and disciplinary recommendations.
Follows all safety protocols. Reports all guest/employee accident/incidents to director.
Develop activity schedules and assign staff to run activities.
Evaluate recreation programs and services including identifying program needs, evaluating trends, recommending new/revised programs and equipment.
Monitor/maintain equipment and supply inventories; make purchase requests for equipment and supplies as needed.
Keeps current on new trends and services in the recreation field.
Interacting with our community to explain and promote what the Recreation Department offers and encourage community involvement.
Assist in marketing the department services through print media, social media, and participation in industry expos representing the resort.
Assist with operational and statistics reporting.
Work schedule will require working weekends during season and some evenings throughout the year.
Performs other job related duties as assigned.

Tasks involve physical effort, i.e. standing, walking, and frequent light lifting (5-10 lbs.); somewhat frequent heavy lifting (20-80 lbs.); minimal dexterity in the use of fingers, limbs, or body in the operation of shop or office equipment.
Some tasks may involve extended periods of sitting, standing and walking.
Ability to work in an outdoor setting for an extended period of time for events.
Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms.
Bachelor’s Degree in Parks, Recreation, or Leisure Studies; or directly related field.
Four years or more of related experience is preferred.
Pass extensive background investigation with favorable results.
Valid Virginia Driver’s License or ability to obtain within the first 30 days of hire.
Must have a satisfactory driving record as driving is essential to this position.
Willingness to obtain the National Recreation & Park Association’s Certified Parks & Recreation Professional (CPRP) certification within three (3) years of employment.
