Director of Character and Leadership Development for Football

The Director of Character and Leadership Development for Football will create and coordinate player development initiatives focused specifically on life skills, character development, and leadership training to advance the culture of Maryland Football. He/she will develop programming related to, but not limited to: life skills, time management, goal setting, financial literacy, proper judgement, developing successful habits and behaviors. The Director of Character and Leadership Development for Football will lead and execute the strategic plan for the branding and operation of the Terp Mentorship and InTERPS (internship) program. This includes, but not limited to: working to recruit local corporation and business leaders to act as mentors or hosts for internship opportunities; create annual programming and events for mentors and mentees to promote networking, interview preparation, career readiness; schedule and conduct monthly meetings with mentors and head coach; schedule and conduct monthly meetings with mentors as well as mentees supporting the programs goals; and engage with student-athletes on a weekly basis to support their mentor relationship. The Director of Character and Leadership Development for Football will create an evaluation System for Player Development that ensures consistent growth. In addition, he/she will work to develop professional development for staff, and graduate assistants. The Director of Character and Leadership Development for Football will develop curriculum, brand, and implement character development and life skills; oversee develop the CORE program; assist in recruit and parent education and involvement; coordinate all programming and marketing as it pertains to player development and character development The Director of Character and Leadership Development for Football will assist with the transition into the collegiate environment; serve in conjunction with Director of Player Development as the liaison between student-athletes and internal/external departments/agencies as it relates to player development; refer student to appropriate university departments or external agency and ensure proper support is given; collaborate with the Director of Player Development; and perform other duties as assigned. Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three (3) years of previous life skills management, leadership and/or mentoring experience required. Applicant should be knowledgeable about the needs of student-athletes to succeed in a highly academic environment. Master’s degree in education, counseling or related field is preferred. A minimum of three (3) years of previous life skills management, leadership and/or mentoring experience preferably with student-athlete development. Knowledge of NCAA and Big Ten Conference eligibility rules is preferred. Preference given to candidates familiar with the collegiate football environment. |
