Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, (pop. 30,690), a first ring suburb of Minneapolis, is seeking an innovative, community-minded Recreation Director to oversee and direct the Recreation Department and its enterprise operations. The Recreation Director ensures that department programs and services are aligned with the City’s strategic direction. The position exercises oversight over five divisions and the operations of the Earle Brown Heritage Center Conference and Events Center and Centerbrook Golf Course and responsibility of the $4,7 million department budget of which 60 percent is funded by special funds and enterprise funds. The department has an authorized staff of 28 full-time and 90.5 part-time/seasonal employees. The Recreation Director also serves as staff liaison to the Park and Recreation Commission.
The Recreation Director position requires a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in recreation administration, business administration, public administration, sociology and community engagement, or a related field and five years of progressively responsible experience managing significant operations. Qualified candidates must demonstrate experience in recreation management, policy development, inclusive community engagement, budget development and administration, and employee supervision. Experience managing enterprise operations and collaborations are a plus.
The 2021 salary range is $115,528—$141,652; starting salary commensurate with candidate experience and qualifications. Comprehensive benefits package available, including participation in the PERA pension plan.
